Atlantic Coast Beaches: A Guide to Ripples, Dunes, and Other Natural Features of the Seashore
At first glance, the beach may appear to be an endless, flat, monotone landscape meant only for swimming, snoozing, or working on your tan. Upon closer inspection, though, the beach reveals that it has myriad treasures for the curious to locate, such as ephemeral beach ripples decorating the sand, traces of miniature organisms inscribed on dunes, and armored mudballs. Atlantic Coast Beaches, from Maine to Florida, are full of amazing features formed by the interactions between tides, currents, bedrock, weather, beach critters, and much more. Written for a general audience, Atlantic Coast Beaches: A Guide to Ripples, Dunes, and Other Natural Features of the Seashore covers everything, from microscopic nematodes to the potentially cataclysmic changes occurring along the coastline due to rising sea level. Its clear writing, illustrative photographs, and instructive diagrams answer some curious questions, such as why do some sands bark and sing, how do miniature sand volcanoes form, and how do barrier islands migrate?

Resolved Question: Could I get into East Carolina University with these grades?
I have a 3.3 gpa for sophomore year, 3.7 for junior year, and 3.7 for senior year so far.
my senior year grades and courses:
English 4: 90 (B)
British Literature: 99 (A)
Physics: 100 (A)
Pre-Calculus: 90 (B)
US Government: 96 (A)
Algebra 2: 93 (B)
Electives:
Religious Studies: 100 (A)
Comprehensive Vocabulary: 95 (A)
Advanced Spanish 2: 98 (A)
Conceptual Art 2: 100 (A)
Physical Fitness and Training: 100 (A)
Those gpa's were on a scale of 4.0, 3.7, 3.3, 3.0, etc. with no 3.6 or 3.8, etc.
My school has a very strict gpa system.
Idk my freshman gpa yet since I transferred from public to private school after my freshman year and certain grades didn't transfer over. So now I'm taking an english college course to make up for the absent english grade and a geology college class and lab next semester to make up for the absent science grade. I'm also taking a psychology class at college this semester as dual enrollment and next semester I'll also take a philosophy class on top of the geology.
I have so many credits so far this year in high school because I go to a very liberal private school and we can take up to ten classes, although I'm taking an extra eleventh because I just barely failed algebra 2 last year by like 3 points.
I know ECU isn't the hardest school to get into, but my brother goes there and I love the atmosphere of it, everyone's so chill, and to me there's no sense in applying to a school just for its "prestigious" name.
Do I have a shot? Cuz ECU's the only place I'm applying...

i need to find geological history of pease bay on the east coast 30 or 40km south of edinburgh. Im interested in igneous interactions, timescale of sedimentary rock formation, where and when (geologically speaking) these events took place. I understand basics and relise scotland was not where it is now when some of the early events that shaped the deposits happened. Can anyone help me locate a free website or free guide so i can learn more about the site. One of the founders of modern geology did a lot of research there and I would like to find out a lot more.

Resolved Question: Geologically, how did so much oil end up in the Middle East?
That question has drifted through my brain for a while, and it got me to thinking, is it just a matter of what form the oil is in that there seems to be so much focus on the Middle East, since shale deposits in Canada are huge, largely untapped sources of oil, or is there something unique about the geology of the Mideast that has made it the oil hub of the world?

Resolved Question: Speed of the shockwaves in the April 18, 2008 earthquake?
I live about 110 miles from the epicenter of the 5.2 earthquake that hit southern Illinois on Friday, and I got to wondering, about how fast would shockwaves move at the point of maximum magnitude? I realize that the geology east of the Rockies is much denser than, say, California, so shockwaves are felt much farther away from the epicenter in this part of the country, but I'm curious to know if they'd be a lot faster because of the increased density of the rock here.
