Courier
Courier These live recordings find the seminarian-turned-new-folkie in his element: playing before an attentive, enthusiastic audience in his native New Jersey and New York, spinning mythic stories of fateful battlefields, haunted truckers, and visionary saints and lovers alike. Fronting an easygoing band of expert pickers, Richard Shindell turns in surprisingly solid covers of Little Feat and Bruce Springsteen tunes. Cry, Cry, Cry partner Lucy Kaplansky wraps Shindell's nasal, sinewy delivery in subtle harmonies, pushing the best of these songs, including "Next Best Western" and his finest, most poignant take on relationships, "Are You Happy Now," past previously recorded versions. As an introduction to Shindell's spiritual lyricism and as a live document for longtime fans, Courier is a cache of reflective, gently glowing gems. --Roy Kasten

The Courier
The Courier Simon Leonidovich is an average looking guy, a few pounds overweight with a disarming smile and more frequent flyer miles than your average rock star. And he's no glorified UPS delivery man, either. His "packages" range in importance and value from priceless works of art, to live human organs, to nuclear materials. On the return flight from Madrid to New York, after having delivered a Gutenberg Bible to the Prado museum, Simon gets an urgent e-mail about a pickup at a pharmaceutical company in Sweden. Deciding, despite his exhaustion and the additional long hours of fllight to take the order, he finds himself protecting information that, if revealed, could save the lives of millions of people and ensure the demise of a very powerful drug manufacturer. In hot pursuit of the courier are a fearsome, psychotic hired killer and the European police community who have flagged Simon as the prime suspect in the murder of a beautiful stewardess. Add to the mix the fact that Simon's sister and office manager, Lara, is kidnaped by the killer in order to be used as ransom in return for the "hot" diskettes containing the scientific research in question and you've got a great international thriller.

Resolved Question: A Bailout Question For Tax Paying Americans ...?
Shouldn't this make everyone angry or at least a little Pissed? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081222/ap_on_bi_ge/meltdown_secrets http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081221/ap_on_bi_ge/executive_bailouts This question is for all Americans. Democrats and Republicans and any Liberal who wishes to answer. Specifically for all who pay taxes. I'm on my way to work (I'm a Federal Express Courier) and I just wanted to know what others think about this. Thumbs up to all who answer. Just give me time to get home and read them. Thanks! Voting Question: Part 2..Why this pervasive dark mutterings of hopelessness of a future black Prime Minister in Britain?
Greg Dyke, a scion of the true Brit, an incorrigible Establishment hand and former honcho of BBC once indicted the world famous broadcasting station of being hideously white. Dyke forgot to mention also that the corporation had gone Asian. In the BBC, blacks are invisible as newsreaders and presenters. They are unwanted as producers, reporters and editors of news. But blacks are in the backroom as cooks in the canteen, cleaners and delivery ?boys?. Few miles from BBC?s White City?s head office is the House of Commons. If BBC is hideously white, the British parliament is obscenely more so and shamelessly racist and patriarchal. British parliament is a treacherous, white dominated enclave. Of the 600 MPs, only 15 are non white. Permit me to say that I hate the term ethnic minority.the higher you peep into its greasy hierarchical pole, the whiter it becomes. There are no Collin Powells in the British Army. No Condoleezza Rice in its Foreign Service. Another English peculiar mess! For the past decade the Sunday Times has not featured a single black millionaire in its April Rich List edition. Here there is no P-Diddy, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Samuel L Jackson, Jay-Zee and Stevie Wonder. There is dearth of black faces in business, politics, law, medicine, pharmacy, entertainment, film and banking. There is no quickening in British soul. It is not a place where an area boy can emerge as head of the London Underground in 20 years. But in America an area boy with gut could remake himself and head the New York Metro in 20 years. Britain is a gradualist and deeply racist society with deeply entrenched consciousness of Europeanism and hierarchy rather than assimilation and oneness. Here you are still judge by the colour of your skin for higher posts. When America embraces unifying patriotism, Britain celebrates fragmented nationalism. Perceived as outsiders, millions of non white British people still find comfort in their countries of origin. This loyalty has been tested in cricket and football matches. For instance, British born and bred Jamaicans are naturally disposed to support their home cricket team when pitted against the British team. The same sentiment resides in British born Pakistani,s when they meets the England Criket team. The Norman Tebitt?s prognosis of immigrant natural bias here finds self fulfilment! Can you still see Englishman?s peculiar mess? For blacks, Britain is not a place of the big dream. General Collin Powell, former US Secretary of State, once said that he was lucky that the ship that transplanted his great, great, grand parents did not drop anchor in Liverpool. His prescient was right. He must have seen the present state of black British and their backwardness and immobility. For him to have been born here, according to his reckoning, he would have become a bus driver! Unlike America, Britain is not a melting pot. Britain is still European in temper, attitude and projections. Blacks in Britain are still wetbacks on plantation reserve eking out living as office cleaners, bus drivers, parcel couriers, site security officers, cab drivers, hospital porters, rubbish clearers, boiler technicians, night train cleaners, receptionists, janitors, akiri ja number- night traffic warders, CCTV manipulators, hairdressers, barbers, doormen and nightclub in-toilet serviette dispensers. The City where the high flying jobs are aplenty are reserved for the well heeled, well connected, well jawed spoilt brats using social network and class to full advantage. It is no secret that the English have difficulty believing that black people can be clever, intelligent, middle class and patriotic. They have given up hope of ever seeing our Shakespeare, Beethoven and Thomas Addison. (more...)

Voting Question: Has anyone ever worked as a Courier independent contractor? ?
The kind of courier job where you use your own vehicle for a company to deliver goods. Every now and again I see ads in the Philadelphia news paper for this type of work. I?m just wondering if this is a scam or something. If not ? is there money to be made or does all the loot go down the tubes from hidden cost and vehicle depreciation. I could use any details or suggestions about how this business works and how to get hired if it?s a good profession. Generally I'm just looking for a profitable line of work that?s solitary and doesn?t take all sorts of time & training to get involved in. (more...)

Resolved Question: this my health and physical education oral aye tell me what you think?
Hello Mr G and class mates. This oral presentation will explain to you how ?women in sport gain sufficient recognition by the media in the 21st century than in previous decades? and how this can still be improved. The relationship between sport and the media has become so close that without the media the sporting world would collapse. The main income for sport comes from the media, as the media attracts big money through sponsorship and advertisements. The money from this helps clubs to be able to buy and import better players to make the game allot more interesting, the clubs can also use this money to upgrade, build and repair stadiums along with giving the players salaries. Without promotion of sport through the media there would be no new young talent coming through and the sport would become boring and people would loose interest in it. Media has a large impact on games and often games will often be revolved around add breaks. Ever since sport has been broadcast on television games have been changed to attract a wider audience, like one day cricket for example was formed in 1977 because of the media influence to attract a wider audience. A quote from the editor of, the economist (20 July 1996) ?The lure of money is already altering sport and will change it more. Increasingly games will be reorganised to turn them into better television.?(p 367). The Medias involvement in sport is constantly becoming more important. Sports relationship with the media started out small but become much closer with advancement in technology. Ever since the media has become involved in sport it has rapidly become a very profitable business. Sport was first introduced into the media in 1956 but had a minimal affect due to lack of communication tools and technology. Then in the 1970?s with the development of technology sport had another go with the world cricket series being televised for the first time to a television audience of 1 million people, from then on the relationship between sport and the media blossomed and were then inextricably linked. Quote Jacques Marchand (1994) ?At the start, the marriage of sport and the media was a love match. It later became a marriage of convenience and today, with the advent of [global] television, it has become, in addition, a marriage based on money.? (p 367) Since the beginning of sport it has been male dominated and it is only really in the past couple of years women have started to gain some recognition. The messages the media send about women and women?s sport have a large influence on how female athletes and sports are accepted in society. Women have come a long way in sports from only being able to view sporting events if they were unmarried virgins or prostitutes to now being able to participate and compete in almost every kind of sport, but they still get almost no recognition whatsoever. Women often have to pose either nude or in bikinis due to lack of coverage and promotion. For example in 2000 to gain media publicity, the Australian soccer team had to pose nude in a calendar shoot. In the courier mail on the 12 of November 2008 there were only three news articles on women?s sport out of the thirty eight sport articles there. One of the articles was about tennis player Daniela Hantuchova here is the article I have highlighted the parts I believe that women in sport constantly have to endure (pass it around the room) look at the bottom of that one it says. ?Hantuchova has sustained her carrier well after many years in which a battle to keep weight on her thin 181cm frame was closely monitored by the international media.? That is an example of the media controlling how sporting women look. The last time a female was on the front page of a news paper or featured on the news was during the Olympics, but still it was images of the girls wearing their tight swim suits or other tight clothes and only featured the attractive girls, yet another example of sexism. The other articles are about the Firebirds net ball team and it mainly spoke about re-signing Tasmin greenway the ?English stunner? the article was alright but focused on her looks, And the other article was about the sports stars of the year with a tiny space in the bottom of the page and a photo of Stephanie Rice even though the actual article mentioned her once and was mainly about men. The media have so much control they can do almost anything they like, for example with the women?s beach volleyball they have changed the design of outfits to tiny bikinis, and use many different camera angles to let guys have a ?perve? when the girls go to serve, there is a nice close up of their bums. Female beach volleyball has a predominately male auidence due to the media changing the rules to attract a male auidence. Women need to get more recognition for what they have done for the sporting world, often they are the higher achievers then the males. Take the Olympics for example, the majority of the medals cam (more...)

Voting Question: Is this another example of feminism run riot or something else?
From Australia: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,24639854-421,00.html "PHILANDERING husbands could soon be forced by the courts to keep paying for their mistresses after an affair ends. That is just one outcome set to arise from laws on broken de facto relationships that will take effect early next year, The Courier-Mail reports. Under the Family Law Act reforms, de facto partners together for two years will get the same rights as married couples to seek "spousal maintenance" claims. " confusedperson: The article never mentions that one person ever supported the other, just that she cannot "support herself or himself adequately" (4th paragraph) "Maintenance, as distinct from child support, may be ordered when the other party is "unable to support herself or himself adequately" following separation." I am confused by this article also, I tried to find more information, but cannot find the actual law documents. It appears that the law is gender neutral and covers same sex relationships also. Kuve: That is what I am asking, what is this law and who is the intended beneficiary. Gender neutral language is sometimes used to mask the practical application of a law being not gender neutral as to avoid accusations of bias, but this law, I really don't know. (more...)

Resolved Question: What do you think should happen for this mother and unborn child (see question)?
"CHILD Safety officials should be given the power to protect the eight-month fetus of a drug-addicted Brisbane prostitute, it has been claimed. The Courier-Mail reported the State Government was searching for the woman but could not legally intervene until the birth of the child. "The rights and liberty of the mother" prevented any prior intervention, the Department of Child Safety said. But many Brisbane residents feel the Child Protection Act of 1999 should be changed in extreme cases of prenatal abuse. "Child Safety should be able to intervene during pregnancy as her drug habit will affect the baby. To just step in after it is born is a bit too late," one reader wrote. Another said the Government made the law and was copping out by claiming it "was unable to do anything". The law allows the Department of Child Safety to offer counselling to the woman and assess the risk, but not to take any further steps to protect the child. Children's Safety Australia president Kim Jackson said she agreed with citizens who wanted legal powers expanded in extreme cases. "If there is not legislation in place, there seems to be a dire need for it," Ms Jackson said. The prostitute, in her 20s and said to be addicted to heroin and speed, has advertised herself to men with a "pregnancy fetish" on an erotic website saying she needs money after being abandoned by her partner." Resolved Question: Bad news for parents who vaccine??!?
In Louisville, KY where I am from, on the news is 9 kids in elementary school who have whooping cough. Isn't that pertussis? I thought that was in the Dtap shots that children receive. Am I wrong? I thought this was scary and wanted to share. I vaccinate my kids and all these kids were vaccinated too. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008810150800 Does this make you second guess yourself on vaccinating your kids if they are going to maybe catch it anyway? Just to add, I will definitely still vaccinate, but maybe they should consider another round of Dtap 10 years after the last one if it expires... just a thought... (more...)
