Open Question: Please edit and critique my admission essay for me...?
This is my admissions essay, the topic is, Statement of purpose. I dread writing essays, I realize this essay is risky but I thought it would benefit to keep it interesting and different. If its too risky or just plain dumb I'll keep the traditional method instead. And how would an admission essay be formated, like do I put my name on it, or just the title. And should it be double spaced, or single? Thanks, oh, and be nice=) Confessions of Miss popular herself As I walked down the hall to my next class, I passed the many students wearing posters of me which stated ?Prom, vote for April?. I smiled at everyone in appreciation, the truth is however, that I secretly walked by pondering what issues should be discussed in student council, who I plan on voting for in the presidential election, and what our countries GDP will be in the following quarter. The complicated fact is that I have many interests, hobbies no one would ever expect. I could say I enjoy long walks on the beach, shopping, and going out with friends, which is what it seems. But since this is an essay introducing myself, I?ll be honest. I enjoy long hours viewing the changing conditions of the stock market, reviewing political plans, watching the history channel, and spending my nights buried in the fascinating world of literature. Yes, that?s me, a secret slave to intellectual expansion, and worldly issues. In high school, my fellow students spent their summers at the beach, or at local hang outs. I however spent my summers volunteering at the local recreation center. Rather than going out and making potentionally bad decisions with friends, I preferred assisting with children at the recreation. As I look back, I would not have done anything different because no beach compares to a child?s smile and laughter. It is a marvel how one could possibly be labeled as ?Popular? even though I seldom socialized with peers outside of school. While some people view school as nothing more than a necessity, I view school as a gateway. The opportunity to learn is the gateway to life. Opposite of the common stereotype, that the attractive are less intelligent, I find pleasure in expanding my intellect. While a great percentage of the country is watching hip television shows, I find my late night entertainment in watching the history channel. Knowledge on where you come from and how things became what they are is a beautiful advantage. All subjects in life are worth learning; Plato once wrote that Socrates stated, ?The unexamined life is not worth living?. This quote is fundamental in my intellectual beliefs. Life would be pointless and dull if one does absolutely nothing to intellectually explore the world and its surroundings. Education holds the upmost primacy. My aspirations go hand in hand with my passion, my passion in finance. My interests revolve around the economy. I have fallen in love with every aspect of economics, how corporations work, and how changes such as taxes and investments can alter the economies condition. My dream is to work in finance; I want to be the one who contributes to the economy. Rather than viewing how the economy works, I would like to be part of it. Nothing compares to my passion for the stock market, which is why my future in this field will be formidable. It is simply remarkable how the stock market works. Investments are an injection to the economy; It would be nothing less than an honor to be a part of our economies success. When the two sides of me come together, I get the feeling that I can do anything. I believe that I can make anything happen; I will be the one who made a difference. In my family, education is important to me, and only me. I am the first of my generation to attend college, and I will be the first in any generation to graduate from a University. Great aversion overwhelms me when a family member states how it?s a benefit to work first, and then maybe go to night school. I will not allow this negative surrounding the potential to negatively affect my goals. I refuse to perpetuate the cycle, I will be the outlier. In the end, I may be miss popular, but my nerd tendencies will always prevail. I have many intellectual interests and aspirations to learn as much as possible about the world I live in. You will only truly experience life when you know how things work. As long as I am doing what I love, the nerd in me will always have my acquiescence. That is an official introduction to me, queen to society, geek to the core. (more...)

Open Question: Should The Deuterocanonical Books Have Been Removed?
Some of the many arguments for them remaining as part of the Bible are, In John 10:22 we read a mention of the Feast of Dedication- this Feast was not mentioned in the Bible in the Protocanonica (standard Old Testament) while it was proved in the Book of Maccabees that Judas Maccabeus was the first to initiate this feast when he purified the temple of the profanities of the gentiles and renewed the altar. This feast was not mentioned in the Protocanonica as at the time the writings in question were compiled by Ezra the priest the feast of Dedication had yet to be instituted, yet from the apostle John we not that it was. ?Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon?s porch.? John 10:22 The Books in question were found in the ?Septuagint version? of the Old Testament. This translation from Hebrew to Greek is the oldest known and the seventy-two Jewish Rabbis that performed the translation during the reign of Patmus II at Alexandria in c.282 BC , entered these books with the other Old Testament writings indicating they were of equal importance. The three oldest copies of the ?Septuagint version?, the ?Sinaite?, ?Alexandrian? and ?Vatican? all include the ?Deuterocanonical Books?. The Coptic version, which is generally considered the oldest after the ?Septuagint? also contains these books as does the Latin versions. The Council of Hippo, held in 393 AD and the Council of Carthage held in 397 AD both declared the authenticity of the ?Deuterocanonical books?. Many Church Fathers made equal references to the books of the Old Testament including the ?Deuterocanonical Books?. Some include Clement of Alexandria, Oregan, Dionisius, Cyprian, Basil, Gregory of Nyssa, Augustine and John Chrysostom. Even Athanasius, who presided over the Council of Nicea where the Canon was determined quoted verses from the ?Deuterocanonical Books? and made references that these books were useful in teaching. The early Church would read from the ?Deuterocanonical Books? at the appropriate times during Church services and was common practice within all Christianity, not just Rome, up until the birth of Protestantism in Europe. Today, all Churches that can legitimately establish a heritage dating back to the apostles all recognize the ?Deuterocanonical Books?. Many of the Churches in Europe were influenced by the Jewish communities who by the time of the Reformation had rejected the ?Deuterocanonical Books?. Thus these people were mislead by Jews who still rejected Christ and were devoid of the Holy Spirit, relying solely on their carnal understanding of the Mosaic law. Others within the European Church who attempted to defeat the Jewish arguments against Christianity relied solely on the ?Protocanonical Books? as the Jews rejected all other writings. This led to their dependence on the standard Old Testament writings. Of the early Church Fathers that rejected the ?Deuterocanonical Books?, they make it evident that they were expressing their personal opinions and that the Church as a Body rejected their viewpoint. All Churches that have any apostolic foundation still read from the ?Deuterocanonical Books? during certain services. The Roman Catholic Church reassessed the validity of these Books at the Council of Trent in 1546 AD and again established their authenticity in agreement with the earlier Councils and also placed a ?anathema? (ex-communication) on any who reject them. When the Protestants discussed the authenticity of the ?Deuterocanonical Books? with the Greek Churches, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Dcusathus held a meeting in 1682 A. D. and issued a resolution saying "We consider these books authentic and believe that they are part of the Bible because we received them from the holy church since older times". The church of Antioch also acknowledged the point of view of the original churches concerning the validity of these books. (more...)

Resolved Question: Why are people so focused on partisan junk?
When this is what is happening. "The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite." -Thomas Jefferson "History records that the money changers have used every form of abuse, intrigue, deceit, and violent means possible to maintain their control over governments by controlling the money and its issuance." -James Madison "The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home." -James Madison "If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." -Thomas Jefferson 1816 "I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed." -Abraham Lincoln "The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation." - John F. Hylan, Mayor of New York, Mayor, 1918-1925 "I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." - Woodrow Wilson after signing the Federal Reserve Act. "Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." - Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom (1913) "This Act (the Federal Reserve Act, Dec. 23rd 1913) establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the President (Woodrow Wilson) signs the Bill, the invisible government of the Monetary Power will be legalised... The worst legislative crime of the ages is perpetrated by this banking and currency Bill." -Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr. , His Book Banking currency and the money trust 1913 "When the President signs this act [Federal Reserve Act of 1913], the invisible government by the money power -- proven to exist by the Monetary Trust Investigation -- will be legalized. The new law will create inflation whenever the trusts want inflation. From now on, depressions will be scientifically created." -Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr. "If, as it appears, the experiment that was called 'America' is at an end... then perhaps a fitting epitaph would be ... 'here lies America the greatest nation that might have been had it not been for the Edomite bankers who first stole their money, used their stolen money to buy their politicians and press and lastly deprived them of their constitutional freedom by the most evil device yet created --- The Federal Reserve Banking System.' " -G. D. McDaniel In March, 1915, the J.P. Morgan interests, the steel, shipbuilding, and powder interest, and their subsidiary organizations, got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press. ? They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. An agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies, and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers. -Oscar Callaway Congressional Record of February 9, 1917, page 2947 (This is The Council on Foreign Relations) "The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson." - U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in a letter written Nov. 21, 1933 to Colonel E. Mandell I wouldn't go to war again, as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes, and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket. -Major General Smedley Darlington Butler 1933 "National Socialism will use its own revolution for establishing a New World Order." -Adolph Hitler "What is needed here is a return to the Constitution of the United States. We need to have a complete divorce of Bank and State. The old struggle that was fought out here in Jackson's day must be fought over again... The Federal Reserve Act should be repealed and the Federal Reserve Banks, having violated their charters, should be liquidated immediately. Faithless Government officers who have violated their oaths of office should be impeached and brought to trial. Unless this is done by us, I predict that the American people, outraged, robbed, pillaged, insulted, and betrayed as they are in their own land, will rise in their wrath and send a President here who will sweep the money changers out of the temple." -Louis McFadden US Congressman (R-PA) (1915-1935), Chairman of House Banking and Currency Committee. Poisoned in 1936. "It is the system of nationalist individualism that has to go....We are living in the end of the sovereign states....In the great struggle to evoke a Westernized World Socialism, contemporary governments may vanish....Countless people...will hate the New World Order....and will die protesting against it." - H.G. Wells, in his book, The New World Order, 1940 "I am concerned for the security of our great nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within." - General Douglas MacArthur "Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear -kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervour -with the cry of grave national emergency. Always, there has been some terrible evil at home,or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it." -General Douglas Mac Arthur "We have what is known as the Federal Reserve Bank System. That system is not owned by the Government. Many people think that it is because it says ?Federal Reserve.? It belongs to private banks, private corporations. So we have farmed out to the Federal Reserve Banking System that which is owned exclusively, wholly, one hundred percent to the private banks?we have farmed out to them the privilege of issuing the Government?s money!" - John William Wright Patman, Congressional Record (29 Sep. 1941) "We shall have world government whether or not you like it, by conquest or consent." -James Warburg, In the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Feb 17, 1950. "I want to make one thing clear. This war against our constitution is not being fought way off in Madagascar or in Mandalay. It is being fought here?in our schools, our colleges, our churches, our women?s clubs. It is being fought with our money, channeled through the State Department. It is being fought twenty-four hours a day?while we remain asleep. How many of you Senators know what the UN is doing to change the teaching of the children in your own home town? The UN is at work there, every day and night, changing the teachers, changing the teaching materials, changing the very words and tones?changing all the essential ideas which we imagine our schools are teaching to our young folks. How in the name of Heaven are we to sit here, approve these programs, appropriate our own people?s money?for such outrageous ?orientation? of our own children, and of the men and women who teach our children, in this Nation?s schools?" -William Jenner U.S. Senator 1952 "We must now face the harsh truth that the objectives of communism are being steadily advanced because many of us do not recognize the means used to advance them. ... The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a Conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. The American mind simply has not come to a realization of the evil which has been introduced into our midst." -J. Edgar Hoover, Elks Magazine 1956 "There is no doubt that America is now the prime target of international communism." -J. Edgar Hoover, Masters of Deceit (1958) "The invisible Money Power is working to control and enslave mankind. It financed Communism, Fascism, Marxism, Zionism, Socialism. All of these are directed to making the United States a member of a World Government." - American Mercury Magazine, December 1957, (p. 92) "I believe that if the people of this nation fully understood what Congress has done to them over the last 49 years, they would move on Washington; they would not wait for an election....It adds up to a preconceived plan to destroy the economic and social independence of the United States!" - George W. Malone, U.S. Senator (Nevada), speaking before Congress, 1957 "I never would have agreed to the formulation of the Central Intelligence Agency back in forty-seven, if I had known it would become the American Gestapo." -Harry S. Truman 1961 "The high office of the President has been used to foment a plot to destroy the American's freedom and before I leave office, I must inform the citizen of this plight." John F Kennedy Columbia University on Nov. 12, 1963, 10 days before his assassination! "The Trilateral Commission is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United States. The Trilateral Commission represents a skillful, coordinated effort to seize control and consolidate the four centers of power--Political, Monetary, Intellectual, and Ecclesiastical." - U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, his book No Apologies, 1964 "All of us will ultimately be judged on the effort we have contributed to building a new world order." -Robert Kennedy "Most Americans have no real understanding of the operation of the international money lenders. The accounts of the Federal Reserve System have never been audited. It operates outside of the control of Congress and manipulates the credit of the United States." -Barry GoldWater "The time has come to recognize the United Nations for the anti-American, anti-freedom organization that it has become. The time has come for us to cut off all financial help, withdraw as a member, and ask the United Nations to find headquarters location outside the United States that is more in keeping with the philosophy of the majority of voting members, someplace like Moscow or Peking." -Barry Goldwater, Congressional Record (1971) "The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a One-World Government combining supercapitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control.... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent." - Congressman Larry P. McDonald, 1976, killed in the Korean Airlines 747 that was shot down by the Soviets. "The threat of environmental crisis will be the 'international disaster key' that will unlock the New World Order." -Mikhail Gorbachev "The main purpose of the Council on Foreign Relations is promoting the disarmament of U.S. sovereignty and national independence and submergence into an all powerful, One World Government." - Admiral Chester Ward, former CFR member and Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Navy "Let us face reality. The framers have simply been too shrewd for us. They have outwitted us. They designed separate institutions that cannot be unified by mechanical linkages, frail bridges, or tinkering. If we are to turn the founders upside down. we must directly confront the Constitutional structure they erected." - James MacGregor Burns, Council on Foreign Relations member, 1984 "A careful examination of what is happening behind the scenes reveals that all of these interests are working in concert with the masters of the Kremlin in order to create what some refer to as a ?New World Order.? Private organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the Trilateral Commission, the Dartmouth Conference, the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies, the Atlantic Institute, and the Bilderberg Group serve to disseminate and to coordinate the plans for this so-called new world order in powerful business, financial, academic, and official circles." -Jesse Helms, Senate 1987 "It is the sacred principles enshrined in the United Nations charter to which the American people will henceforth pledge their allegiance." -George HW Bush (The War in Iraq) A rare opportunity to move toward an historic period of cooperation. Out of these troubled times... ...a new world order can emerge. -George HW Bush "... what is at stake, is more than one small country. It is a big idea. A New World Order where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace, and security, freedom, and the rule of law ... [The war in Iraq is] a rare opportunity to move toward an historic period of cooperation. Out of these troubled times, ... our fifth objective, - a New World Order, can emerge: a new era, freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace ... Now we can see a new world coming into view, a world in which there is a very real prospect of a New World Order. ... We are now in sight of a United Nations that performs as envisioned by its founders." -George HW Bush "Today, America would be outraged if UN troops entered Los Angeles to restore order. Tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told that there were an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. Resolved Question: Can you give me any proof that there was ever an independent country of Palestine?
A common misperception is that the Jews were forced into the diaspora by the Romans after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in the year 70 A.D. and then, 1,800 years later, suddenly returned to Palestine demanding their country back. In reality, the Jewish people have maintained ties to their historic homeland for more than 3,700 years. A national language and a distinct civilization have been maintained. The Jewish people base their claim to the land of Israel on at least four premises: 1) God promised the land to the patriarch Abraham; 2) the Jewish people settled and developed the land; 3) the international community granted political sovereignty in Palestine to the Jewish people and 4) the territory was captured in defensive wars. The term "Palestine" is believed to be derived from the Philistines, an Aegean people who, in the 12th Century B.C., settled along the Mediterranean coastal plain of what is now Israel and the Gaza Strip. In the second century A.D., after crushing the last Jewish revolt, the Romans first applied the name Palaestina to Judea (the southern portion of what is now called the West Bank) in an attempt to minimize Jewish identification with the land of Israel. The Arabic word "Filastin" is derived from this Latin name. The Twelve Tribes of Israel formed the first constitutional monarchy in Palestine about 1000 B.C. The second king, David, first made Jerusalem the nation's capital. Although eventually Palestine was split into two separate kingdoms, Jewish independence there lasted for 212 years. This is almost as long as Americans have enjoyed independence in what has become known as the United States. Even after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the beginning of the exile, Jewish life in Palestine continued and often flourished. Large communities were reestablished in Jerusalem and Tiberias by the ninth century. In the 11th century, Jewish communities grew in Rafah, Gaza, Ashkelon, Jaffa and Caesarea. Many Jews were massacred by the Crusaders during the 12th century, but the community rebounded in the next two centuries as large numbers of rabbis and Jewish pilgrims immigrated to Jerusalem and the Galilee. Prominent rabbis established communities in Safed, Jerusalem and elsewhere during the next 300 years. By the early 19th century-years before the birth of the modern Zionist movement-more than 10,000 Jews lived throughout what is today Israel. When Jews began to immigrate to Palestine in large numbers in 1882, fewer than 250,000 Arabs lived there, and the majority of them had arrived in recent decades. Palestine was never an exclusively Arab country, although Arabic gradually became the language of most the population after the Muslim invasions of the seventh century. No independent Arab or Palestinian state ever existed in Palestine. When the distinguished Arab-American historian, Princeton University Prof. Philip Hitti, testified against partition before the Anglo-American Committee in 1946, he said: "There is no such thing as 'Palestine' in history, absolutely not." In fact, Palestine is never explicitly mentioned in the Koran, rather it is called "the holy land" (al-Arad al-Muqaddash). Prior to partition, Palestinian Arabs did not view themselves as having a separate identity. When the First Congress of Muslim-Christian Associations met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace Conference, the following resolution was adopted: We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds. In 1937, a local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, told the Peel Commission, which ultimately suggested the partition of Palestine: "There is no such country [as Palestine]! 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria." The representative of the Arab Higher Committee to the United Nations submitted a statement to the General Assembly in May 1947 that said "Palestine was part of the Province of Syria" and that, "politically, the Arabs of Palestine were not independent in the sense of forming a separate political entity." A few years later, Ahmed Shuqeiri, later the chairman of the PLO, told the Security Council: "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria." Palestinian Arab nationalism is largely a post-World War I phenomenon that did not become a significant political movement until after the 1967 Six-Day War and Israel's capture of the West Bank. Israel's international "birth certificate" was validated by the promise of the Bible; uninterrupted Jewish settlement from the time of Joshua onward; the Balfour Declaration of 1917; the League of Nations Mandate, which incorporated the Balfour Declaration; the United Nations partition resolution (more...)

Voting Question: Is there call for airport taxis in today's financial crisis situation?
Hi, I've been toying with the idea of setting up an airport taxi business for about six months now, and am currently in a good position to do so (I've got the green-light to be council-registered as private hire)... BUT (and there's always a but!) six months have brought a lot of changes what with the financial crisis etc. My question is - is there a call for this type of business any more? Are people still going on holidays (and what do you think will be the situation in the future) as much or are they all sticking to taking holidays in the UK? If I set up the business now, come April (and then the summer holidays), do you think there will be enough work out there for the business to survive? The vehicle that I have my eyes on is a Mercedes Viano LWB with full leather and space for driver and up to seven passengers. It has an up-market feel that local competitors do not. What are your views? Thanks, Jim Thanks for the quick reply Taf - very informative. My problem with dealing with such companies that you've suggested is that the area I would be registered to cover is a borough not far outside of Swansea. And while businesses are plentiful, industries such as those in the media etc are not. Offering services to account customers is a good idea, though. I suppose it's just finding them (which could prove difficult). (more...)

Resolved Question: Now that a fatwa has been issued, will the Shoura Council allow women to travel without a mahram?
Issue of women traveling without mahram sparks debate http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentID=2009010225531 JEDDAH ? Leading Saudi cleric Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Bin Nasser Al-Obaikan?s views on allowing women to travel freely without having a mahram (a male relative with whom marriage is forbidden) has sparked a debate in the Saudi society. Al-Obaikan, a member of the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars and Advisor to the Ministry of Justice, in a statement to Al-Hayat Arabic daily on Dec. 22 said he has found in his recent research on women?s travel without mahram that it is ?permissible? in Islam for a woman to travel alone without being accompanied by a mahram only when she feels secure. Al-Obaikan first published his views in his website saying a thorough research on the subject has made him satisfied that a woman can travel without a mahram or without the consent of her male guardian if she feels that she is secure. Several Shoura (Consultative) Council members and businesswomen have felt encouraged to act on the fatwa issued by Sheikh Al-Obaikan. Shoura members have favored an open discussion on the issue in the Council. ?It is a very important step to begin with. If we can remove this obstacle, our movement will become much easier,? said Aziza Mansour, businesswoman and owner of Aziza Mansour Company for Real Estate. ?I need to travel several times a month, but every time I need to take permission from my husband?s brother as my husband died several years ago,? she said. ?The existing regulations on women?s travel make my business trips difficult and it delays several of my business deals,? she added. Mansour has called upon the Shoura Council to remove this obstacle and put a system that allows women above 35 years or so to travel without requiring consent from her male guardians. Dr. Talal Al-Bakri, chairman of the Social Affairs Committee in the Shoura Council, hoped that the system could be discussed in the Council. ?I will be the first to vote for it,? he said. Al-Bakri added that Sheikh Al-Obaikan has been requested to discuss his views in the Shoura Council meeting. Dr. Sadaqa Fadel, chairman of the International Political Relations Committee in the Shoura Council, also said he would vote for the new proposed regulations on women?s travel when it is put for vote in the Shoura Council. An academic has also advanced the cause of having a system allowing woman to travel without a male guradian if she travels by air and there is no khalwa (close proximity) between her and other men in the flight. ?This fatwa allows women to travel without consort if she makes sure that she will not be seated next to a man,? said Dr. Ahmad Al-Sheaibi, professor of Islamic sociology at King Saud University in Riyadh. There are dissenting voices as well. ?The fatwa is not acceptable at all,? said Hissa Own, political writer and chairperson of Al-Bidaia Holding Company Group, the first Saudi company owned by a woman. ?A woman can ensure her safety onboard, but not after landing and arriving in the new destination,? she argued. ?Although I am a businesswoman and I need to travel to several countries, the consort system never bothers me,? she added. You gotta love Al-Obaikan. He sure is stirring things up. tel02469, A fatwa is a religious ruling. Some are mundane, some are extreme, some are ignored. This one has some weight. A Saudi cleric has ruled that Islam allows women to travel without a male companion. It. could be game changing. (more...)

Resolved Question: can you help me correct this essay?I am a Chinese girl who is not so good at English.?
Currently?in our Higher Education Mega Center, the most crucial problem is the conflict between the Hot Water Company and students. As the Hot Water Company wanted to increase the price of the water supplies, it caused extreme displeasure among the students groups. Without achieving the desired objectives in pricing, the hot water company decided to shorten the time for water supplying as well as lover the temperature of the water supply. Obviously, this decision aroused resentment among the students. Some students posted messages on the BBS to raise the heated discussion and complaints about the Hot Water Company. And there were others published the phone numbers of the Hot Water Company on the campus forum, to mobilize everyone to launch condemning calls. Some even suggested a procession in front of the company headquarter building. As a student in this group, I have clearly been involved in this incident. No fence, but the solutions we used to resolve conflicts are irrational, childish and impulsive. As my point of view, we should change our positions as a non-organized group, everyone complains as an individual to the Hot Water Company, it's very hard to form a force. Therefore, we must contact other schools? student councils, let them elect a representative to represent the group, representing every last one of the students in the group to negotiate with the Hot Water Company. Secondly, before every individual school's representative starts to negotiate with the hot water company, we must have prepared a survey, using the majority as a primary core for the case. Even if it didn't return to normal, most of the students will accept the change of situation, including time for water supply, and price for water supply. All in all, first of all ?we must join together and solve the problem in the name of a team. On this basis, to seek a majority required reforms. (more...)
