The Beginning Runner's Handbook: The Proven 13-Week Walk-Run Program

At the core of this popular guide is "the program" — a 13-week walk - run plan designed to turn anyone into a runner, without injury. Originally developed by sports medicine physicians and refined through three years of clinics and responses from runners, it explains precisely how the beginner should train every day for the first 13 weeks. Every part of the process is covered, from equipment to staying motivated.
New to this edition are sections on training to run faster and farther, interval and tempo training; maintaining fitness on vacation; training for a half and full marathon; and coming back from injuries. A new chapter focuses on running and the family, including running during pregnancy and after the baby arrives, jogging strollers, children who want to run, and running with the family dog. Also included is the latest on nutrition and running, including low-carb diets and other popular diet trends.

Voting Question: I don't understand what the point is. ?
Why should I wake up in the morning? Why should I talk to people? Why should I bother doing anything? I don't get it.
I always wondered why people seem so content with the crap that goes on. How can a man be so happy with a job in an office, where he works away and dedicates his waking life to some stupid corporate project? How can a woman be happy slaving away as a mother to ungrateful brats who will grow up and throw her into a nursing home? How can kids in school work and work at stupid crap like clubs and sports, and fill up their time with student council and studying, trying to get into colleges that will just overcharge them for their education and throw them into eternal debt, while they try their damndest to be able to buy groceries with a paycheck that could be beaten by McDonald's without a degree?
I don't get it. I ponder. I wonder. There has to be something more.
I feel like a rodent in a cage. Here I am, sitting at my computer, playing games. Oh, nice, a new item! Excellent! In fact, I was just playing World of Warcraft, and a guildmate just got a rare item in that game. Everyone in guild chat made a big announcement about it like they just gave birth or something. Why? It's a game. It's designed to keep you fat and happy, and to make you docile, to suck your money out of your pocket.
So what if I wasn't docile? What if I didn't have all of today's newest trends, fashions, health foods, and cars to keep me fat and happy? Then what? What would I do? I don't know. Life would be just as pointless. I'd live a terribly boring life. So I wonder - on one hand, you have this incredibly stupid existence, surrounded by consumerism, materialism, fake food that is full of artifical crap and chemical crap that humans were, quite frankly, never meant to mess with - and on the other, you have this boring, harsh existence without any of that. Where is the balance? I can't seem to find it. I don't even know why I wake up in the morning.
People are rot. They are organisms that are not to be trusted. They do everything for themselves, and nothing for others - nothing unless they have some sort of benefit to gain from it. The ONLY REASON you can go to the store and buy pre-packaged food products that are conveniant and tasty to you, is because some asshole decided it would be a good way to make money. They don't give two shits worth a damn about your convenience or your life. If they could make money off of selling decapitated infants to cannibals in South America, they would. And if it made more money than pleasing your fat ass, they would focus on that.
So I go back to my original question. Why? Why. What is the point? Because I don't see one. I see misery, I see selfishness, I see hamsters in a huge cage, running in a wheel, oblivious to everything outside of their meaningless little world, full of NFL, NASCAR, Diet Coke, Burger King, Oscar-Meyer precooked bacon (it's easy and convenient!), Ford Explorers, Gucci, and a host of other crap that makes them think they are what they are not - but we've all been raised to think that we're all going to be big, rich hip-hop stars one day, to be featured on MTV Cribs or on some reality show.
I hope the planet burns.
Thanks for reading.
Haha, this is funny that people think only kids in school can feel this way. I'm not a child. I'm a married adult, an aircraft maintainer in the USAF. Just for clarification.
Also, if you're going to sit here and tell me that my life is miserable and that I should 'get away from the computer,' let me point out to you your clear ignorance and obvious habit of poor assumption. I work 10-12 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week. Hardly time in front of a computer.

I am currently a freshman in high school, so I know I have a ways to go before college, but I am VERY interested in Stanford. I want to be a doctor and I REALLY want to go Stanford. I am a straight A student, play varsity sports, am on student council, and in Campus Ministry, but what will give me that extra edge to apply and get into such an elite school like Stanford? Any advice or tips on increasing my chance getting into Stanford?
Thanks!

First, I have overcome more learning challenges compared to the average student. For example, during my freshman year of high school I was assigned to attend a learning center class three days a week because teachers determined that extra help with my homework and test-taking skills would be a benefit to me. By the end of my freshman year, however, a reevaluation revealed that I no longer required extra assistance. My diligence and sustained efforts to adopt the learning center?s problem solving strategies were successful and provided me with the valuable tools necessary to apply towards my studies. This just proves that when I encounter any difficult tasks, my hard work and determination will help me achieve concrete results.
Second, during my junior year, I faced certain medical challenges that impacted my academic life and temporarily deterred me from maximizing my potential both as a student and as an athlete. In October of 2007, my cardiologist advised me to cease all physical activity until
further notice because I had an abnormally enlarged heart and was diagnosed with pre-hypertension. As a result, I was not able to complete the cross-country season and was restricted to homebound activities. This was a difficult time for me. Nonetheless, my resilience and optimism helped me
maintain a positive outlook about my condition. For example, I focused my energy on other things including schoolwork and improving my second quarter grades. In March, my doctor gave the clearance allowing me to once again participate in physical activity. Despite having only a short amount of time to prepare for my cross-country season, I was able to improve my running times?a feat that I achieved exclusively through dedication and determination since I was committed to putting in extra time at the track to get myself back into shape. Although during my junior year I was dealing with the added stress placed on me by my unexpected medical crises, I remained hopeful and was able to stay focused towards my academic goals. After being cleared to run, I pursued my running goals with the same vigor as I demonstrated in the classroom. My secrets to overcoming any challenge, whether it was big or small, have been my focus, commitment and hard work.
I sent Northeastern an email and ask them about the interview and they said that they dont do interviews but if you come for a visit you can talk to an admissions counselor. Would that be a good idea in my situation. This is what i plan on doing. I know im writing alot but i want advice because i feel that i am a viable candiate for Northeastern. I plan on going to visit northeastern to get to talk to the admissions counselor, i plan on writing a letter which i'll let you guys see it later, im tryin my best in school to get above a 91 from my first quarter grade senior year, i want to send them an email with my new accomplishments. Currently i want to major in accounting and i was selected as the chief financial officer of a student run business and i plan on applying as a position such as vice president or treasurer for a decca position. If i am able to do these things i feel that i would have an advantage. Should i be thinking this?
