Code of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association: 2008-2009 Edition (Code of Medical Ethics)

The American Medical Association's "Code of Medical Ethics" is the most comprehensive ethics guide for physicians. The definitive authority on medical professionalism, the "Code" was first developed in 1847 and undergoes regular revisions. This 2008-2009 edition contains 200 ethical opinions of the AMA's Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs, along with the AMA's nine Principles of Medical Ethics and several opinions on topics including physician health and wellness, physician obligation in disaster preparedness and response, direct-to-consumer diagnostic imaging tests, and resident physicians' involvement in patient care. New guidance is given on previous topics such as transplantation of organs from living donors, racial and ethnic health care disparities, and medical testimony. These opinions, and the principles upon which they are founded, have been cited in many of the important medicolegal decisions of our time including Cruzan and Roe v. Wade. References to case law and journal articles are annotated for research convenience throughout this edition. "The Code of Medical Ethics" has set the standard for practicing medicine ethically for more than 160 years and is the essential companion for physicians and other medical professionals, attorneys, health care administrators, and patients who contend with the challenging issues and choices inherent in modern medicine.

Resolved Question: please help with government?
1. What is the name for the powers the Constitution gives to the state governments and forbids the national government from using?
(Points: 1)
Concurrent powers
Reserved powers
Divided powers
Delegated powers
2. What is the name of the document that forms the fundamental law of a state government?
(Points: 1)
The United States Constitution
The state constitution
The Charter
A charter of rights
3. "Laboratories of democracy" is another name for the states. This is because:
(Points: 1)
state governments use their powers to experiment with new policies.
the federal government experiments with policies by making individual states try things out.
the states contain counties and cities, just like a test tube rack contains test tubes.
the phrase "political machine" had already been taken by municipal governments.
4. How should state governments treat the laws and court decisions of other states?
(Points: 1)
The states have sovereign power and can ignore the decisions made by other states.
Conflicts among the states are handled by the federal judicial system.
The full faith and credit clause of the U.S. Constitution requires every state to honor the laws and court decisions of every other state.
The Tenth Amendment states that powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution are reserved to the states.
5. A _____ is the level of local government directly below the state.
(Points: 1)
municipality
special district
county
township
6. A _____ is a level of local government that includes several population centers or a mixture of urban and rural districts.
(Points: 1)
township
special district
municipality
county
7. What level of government has jurisdiction over a single population center?
(Points: 1)
Special district
County
Township
Municipal
8. What form of municipal government closely matches the structure of state and national government, with a distinct executive and legislative branch?
(Points: 1)
Commission plan
Council-manager
Federal plan
Mayor-council
9. What level of government has primary responsibility for setting the qualifications for voting?
(Points: 1)
Federal
State
County
Municipal
10. State constitutions are regularly amended to include policy decisions. Why is this so?
(Points: 1)
It is easier to amend a state constitution than it is to change the Constitution of the United States.
Policies are the actions taken by government on behalf of the people.
Once policies are written into state constitutions, they become harder to change, requiring a new constitutional amendment.
State constitutions are the fundamental law of the states, just as the U.S. Constitution is the fundamental law of the United States.
