Todd Smith
Todd Smith No other rapper from the '80s has had LL's longevity. That said, everyone--LL included--knows that the brash Queens teen of Radio is long gone. Since the mid-90s, LL's been best with crossover, R&B/rap songs hardcore types supposedly hate (but their girlfriends love). Todd Smith overflows with that. Despite half-hearted attempts at unleashing his "Jack the Ripper" skills on songs like "LL and Santana" (that'd be Juelz, not Carlos) and "What You Want," Cool James sounds more convincing when he's not trying so hard to be hard. Skip past the overly syrupy "Down the Aisle" and "Ooh Wee" and check out the old-school funkiness of "Control Myself" or "Favorite Flavor," with a throwback sound reminiscent of "Around the Way Girl." Toward the end, LL offers up "We're Gonna Make It," a rousing, feel-good song about perseverance and an apt anthem for LL's own 20-year career. --Oliver Wang

Open Question: Agree or disagree: Israel is trying to create a new front in Lebanon through a Saudi group based in Lebanon?
A rocket was just allegedly fired from Lebanon into Israel, I think it was probably by a Sunni extremist group from Saudi Arabia. This will allow Israel to make up for its past loss, allow Saudi Arabia to hurt Iran quite a bit in the Arab world without anyone knowing, allow greater US anger to be unleashed against Iran and Hezbollah and it will allow for the further destabilization of the Middle East which is Israel's real goal so that they can expand their borders in the future without much trouble. Question written on January 8, 2009 Israel has always wanted to expand its borders, currently Gaza and the West Bank are targets to expand its borders. I am saying that a Saudi extremist group shot rockets at Israel to destabilize Iran and Hezbollah, allowing Israel to make up for their war. Saudi Arabia and Israel want destabilization of the parts of the Middle East that Iran and Syria have major control in. There is a common goal there. Eventually, all of the Palestinians in Gaza will be removed from Gaza due to the unbearable pressure of them on Israel's blockade. This pressure will be exacerbated by the global economic depression that is coming. Of course Israel is trying to create a new front in Lebanon. They want to make up for their past loss. Israel though, will not commit any terrorist acts against itself, they will leave it up to extremist groups who will INEVITABLY allow them to go into Lebanon through some terrorist action. And yes, Israel will NOT like the fact that their citizens were hit by an attack but it gives them the excuse to go into Lebanon. So, they haven't reacted yet, I believe they probably will and if they don't, well, then Saudi Arabia has FAILED to ignite the fire that would bring Hezbollah and Israel towards war once again. Israel, while not part of this Saudi extremist conspiracy, maybe feels the price would be too high at the moment. Hezbollah will end up lucky and Iran and Syria will continue to keep their influence in Lebanon. Israel wants peace but before peace comes, they will seize much more land then they have right now from surrounding territories especially all of the land from Palestinian territories. (more...)

Open Question: The rotten state of Egypt is too powerless and corrupt to act?
There was a day when we worried about the "Arab masses" ? the millions of "ordinary" Arabs on the streets of Cairo, Kuwait, Amman, Beirut ? and their reaction to the constant bloodbaths in the Middle East. Could Anwar Sadat restrain the anger of his people? And now ? after three decades of Hosni Mubarak ? can Mubarak (or "La Vache Qui Rit", as he is still called in Cairo) restrain the anger of his people? The answer, of course, is that Egyptians and Kuwaitis and Jordanians will be allowed to shout in the streets of their capitals ? but then they will be shut down, with the help of the tens of thousands of secret policemen and government militiamen who serve the princes and kings and elderly rulers of the Arab world. Egyptians demand that Mubarak open the Rafah crossing-point into Gaza, break off diplomatic relations with Israel, even send weapons to Hamas. And there is a kind of perverse beauty in listening to the response of the Egyptian government: why not complain about the three gates which the Israelis refuse to open? And anyway, the Rafah crossing-point is politically controlled by the four powers that produced the "road map" for peace, including Britain and the US. Why blame Mubarak? To admit that Egypt can't even open its sovereign border without permission from Washington tells you all you need to know about the powerlessness of the satraps that run the Middle East for us. Open the Rafah gate ? or break off relations with Israel ? and Egypt's economic foundations crumble. Any Arab leader who took that kind of step will find that the West's economic and military support is withdrawn. Without subventions, Egypt is bankrupt. Of course, it works both ways. Individual Arab leaders are no longer going to make emotional gestures for anyone. When Sadat flew to Jerusalem ? "I am tired of the dwarves," he said of his fellow Arab leaders ? he paid the price with his own blood at the Cairo reviewing-stand where one of his own soldiers called him a "Pharaoh" before shooting him dead. The true disgrace of Egypt, however, is not in its response to the slaughter in Gaza. It is the corruption that has become embedded in an Egyptian society where the idea of service ? health, education, genuine security for ordinary people ? has simply ceased to exist. It's a land where the first duty of the police is to protect the regime, where protesters are beaten up by the security police, where young women objecting to Mubarak's endless regime ? likely to be passed on caliph-like to his son Gamal, whatever we may be told ? are sexually molested by plain-clothes agents, where prisoners in the Tora-Tora complex are forced to rape each other by their guards. There has developed in Egypt a kind of religious facade in which the meaning of Islam has become effaced by its physical representation. Egyptian civil "servants" and government officials are often scrupulous in their religious observances ? yet they tolerate and connive in rigged elections, violations of the law and prison torture. A young American doctor described to me recently how in a Cairo hospital busy doctors merely blocked doors with plastic chairs to prevent access to patients. In November, the Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm reported how doctors abandoned their patients to attend prayers during Ramadan. And amid all this, Egyptians have to live amid daily slaughter by their own shabby infrastructure. Alaa al-Aswani wrote eloquently in the Cairo paper Al-Dastour that the regime's "martyrs" outnumber all the dead of Egypt's wars against Israel ? victims of railway accidents, ferry sinkings, the collapse of city buildings, sickness, cancers and pesticide poisonings ? all victims, as Aswani says, "of the corruption and abuse of power". Opening the Rafah border-crossing for wounded Palestinians ? the Palestinian medical staff being pushed back into their Gaza prison once the bloodied survivors of air raids have been dumped on Egyptian territory ? is not going to change the midden in which Egyptians themselves live. Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, the Hizbollah secretary general in Lebanon, felt able to call on Egyptians to "rise in their millions" to open the border with Gaza, but they will not do so. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the feeble Egyptian Foreign Minister, could only taunt the Hizbollah leaders by accusing them of trying to provoke "an anarchy similar to the one they created in their own country." But he is well-protected. So is President Mubarak. Egypt's malaise is in many ways as dark as that of the Palestinians. Its impotence in the face of Gaza's suffering is a symbol of its own political sickness. (more...)

Open Question: Al Jazeera lies .. do you feel it in their news and website?
They said many fault things about Egypt and the borders everyday. We can see the real thing in many other channels. They are doing all the effort to show as if Egypt is against our Palestinian brothers in Gaza. They have many Israeli representatives in Qatar. They are cooperating much these days. They have the biggest military American base in the middles east where all the operation of Iraq started. Do you believe them or believe that Egypt is trying to help as possible? Egypt didn't change even when it's poor even when cowards and agents of Israel killed an Egyptian officer on the border? Esc : Yes Israel has about 45000 agent among Palestinians. They are Arabs, most of them Muslims and Palestinians. You see people of same interests get easily together. Toumi: If your fathers cousin one of the reporters doesn't mean he is bad and doesn't mean he part of game. There are many good reporters and still Al Jazeera are the most effective news channel in the region, but it works nowadays against my country with lies and not the normal biased topics. (more...)

Open Question: Israel and Hamas, who's right?
Here's what I understand as the facts, please correct me if I'm wrong. 1. Great Britain and the USA claimed land in the Middle East and called it Israel as a place for Jewish people that were displaced during the Holocaust. This land was chosen because it was holy land in Jewish religion. 2. The problem was that the land was holy land according to the Koran too and the land was taken, in their eyes, unjustly. They've been fighting to get the land back and the USA and Great Britain have been protecting and supporting Israel ever since. 3. In 1969 Israel declared more of the land was their holy land and they forcefully took more of the Gaza strip. 4. Since 1969 Gaza has been using suicide bombers and sending missiles into Israel, stating they will only agree to a cease-fire when Israel agrees to go back to its pre-1969 borders. 6. Gaza elected Hamas as their government party through popular vote sometime in the 1980's. Hamas was openly anti Israel. 5. About a week ago, Israel basically said they're sick of the bombings and missiles and started a full on attack. Hamas has still stated they will only agree to a cease-fire if they go back to their pre-1969 borders. 6. The United Nations voted on a cease-fire on Monday morning. The USA was the only opposing nation. So, who's right? Whose land is it? Should the USA continue their support? What do you think about what?s going on right now? Thank you for your input Eric. Here's another part of this I just don't really get. Why is it the US who has to "police" the area? It seems like a holy war, why do we want any part of it? The land wasn't specifically stated in the Koran or the Torah. My understanding was that only through interpretation has either decided this is where it meant. There's a little more to the six day war that Eric and I mentioned. Israel started the war in a "pre-emptive attack" due to trade embargo. Only after the attack did the other countries, that had a defense agreement with Egypt, attack Israel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six-Day_War Sierra, I like you're 8. I have to admit it was kind of an afterthought, I thought it might help people who just wanted to skim. (more...)

Open Question: Do you know the Zionist movement "Lehi" pro-Nazi and pro-fascist?
In 1940, Lehi proposed intervening in World War II on the side of Nazi Germany. It offered assistance in "evacuating"[vague] the Jews of Europe, in return for Germany's help in expelling Britain from Mandate Palestine. Late in 1940, Lehi representative Naftali Lubenchik was sent to Beirut where he met the German official Werner Otto von Hentig. Lubenchik told von Hentig that Lehi had not yet revealed its full power and that they were capable of organizing a whole range of anti-British operations. On the assumption that the destruction of Britain was the Germans' top objective, the organization offered cooperation in the following terms: From the NMO side: full cooperation in sabotage, espionage and intelligence and up to wide military operations in the Middle East and in eastern Europe anywhere where the Irgun had Jewish cells, active and trained and in some places with weapons. From the German side, the following declarations and actions were demanded: (1) Full recognition of an independent Jewish state in Palestine/Eretz Israel (2) That the ability to emigrate to Palestine be conceded to all Jews, with no restriction of numbers, who, in leaving their homes in Europe, by their own will or because of government injunctions. For this purpose there was expressed a need to cancel any transfer plans of Jews to distant countries like Madagascar. On January 11, 1941 a letter was sent from Vice Admiral Ralf von der Marwitz, the German Naval attaché in Ankara, depicting an offer to "actively take part in the war on Germany's side" in return for German support for "the establishment of the historic Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, bound by a treaty with the German Reich".[17][18] There are three possibilities as to how the offer reached the German Naval attaché in Ankara. One is that en route to Germany, von Hentig was delayed in Ankara and delivered his version of the offer orally to von der Marwitz and von der Marwitz wrote the letter using his words. The second is that Colombani (a general in French intelligence) invented the offer because of personal rivalry between himself and other Vichy officials: this rivalry is known from a paragraph in von der Marwitz' letter, "Colombani is of the opinion that his return to France is a consequence of co-operation of Conti with Minister Pierroton", or, third, that Colombani wanted the offer to fail: he had co-operated with the Mufti of Jerusalem in Lebanon in 1938-1939 and was also the one who took him in his car through Syria to the Iraqi border in 1939. In any case, von der Marwitz delivered the offer, classified as secret, to the German Ambassador in Turkey and on January 21, 1941 it was sent to Berlin. There was never any response. Von Hentig would later say that he believed it was important to help the Jews establish a country. [19] [20] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehi_(group) (more...)

How often we heard this claim: " israel is the only democracy in the Midddle East ! " Realy ? This is today's New York times news: " Israel Puts Media Clamp on Gaza " " JERUSALEM ? Open Question: Should we relocate Israel to Southern California?

Open Question: Do you think that our biggest problem is the lack of good leadership?
Consider this quote from Lee Iacocca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from its death throes? He's now 82 years old and has a new book, 'Where Have All The Leaders Gone?'. Lee Iacocca Says: 'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder! We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'Stay the course.' Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the bums out!' You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq , the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you? I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the first.) Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down. On September 11, 2001 , we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here's where we stand. We're immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble. Our borders are like sieves. The middle class is being squeezed every which way. These are times that cry out for leadership. But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point. Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo? We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened. Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm. Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you're going to do the next time. Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, what are we going to do about it? Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debit, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry. I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on Fox News will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change? Had Enough? Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope - I believe in America . In my lifetime, I've had the privilege of living through some of America 's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises: The 'Great Depr The 'Great Depression,' 'World War II,' the 'Korean War,' the 'Kennedy Assassination,' the 'Vietnam War,' the 1970's oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If I've learned one thing, it's this: 'You don't get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a "Call to Action" for people who, like me, believe in America '. It's not too late, but it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the crap and go to work. Let's tell 'em all we've had 'enough.' Make your own contribution by sending this to everyone you know and care about. It's our country, folks, and it's our future. Our future is at stake!! (more...)
