Bitches Brew

The revolution was recorded: in 1969
Bitches Brew sent a shiver through a country already quaking. It was a recording whose very sound, production methods, album-cover art, and two-LP length all signaled that jazz could never be the same. Over three days anger, confusion, and exhilaration had reigned in the studio, and the sonic themes, scraps, grooves, and sheer will and emotion that resulted were percolated and edited into an astonishingly organic work.
This Miles Davis wasn't merely presenting a simple hybrid like jazz-rock, but a new way of thinking about improvisation and the studio. And with this two-CD reissue (actually, this set is a reissue of the original set plus one track, perfect for the fan who's not so overwhelmed as to need the four-CD
Complete Bitches Brew box), the murk of the original recording is lifted. The instruments newly defined and brightened, the dark energy of the original comes through as if it were all fresh. Joe Zawinul and Bennie Maupin's roles in the mix have been especially clarified. With a bonus track of "Feio"--a Wayne Shorter composition recorded five months later that serves both as a warm-down for
Bitches Brew and a promise of Weather Report to come--this is crucial listening.

Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (August 1969-February 1970)

These historic sessions, recorded between 1969 and 1970 and originally released as a 90-minute double LP, merged jazz and rock into the hybrid genre known as fusion. They remain Miles Davis's most controversial recordings. Davis, along with pianists Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Joe Zawinul; bassist Dave Holland; soprano saxophonist Wayne Shorter; bass clarinetist Benny Maupin; drummers Jack DeJohnette, Billy Cobham, and Lenny White; and percussionist Airto Moreira, went electric with rock rhythms, and the rest, as they say, is history, or as some feel, the end of jazz history.
Now, all of the sessions' 265 minutes are contained on this four-CD set, compiled from alternate takes, nine unreleased tracks, and selections from previously released LPs. The superb remastering reveals the spectral power of Davis's amplified, muted, and open trumpet painting on a swirling harmonic canvas created by Hancock, Corea, and Zawinul, especially on Zawinul's impressionistic "Pharoah's Dance," Shorter's elliptical "Sanctuary," and Davis's rocking "John McLaughlin."
The previously unreleased tracks, including "Yaphet," "Corrado," "Tevere," "The Big Green Serpent," and Zawinul's "Double Image," contain some interesting East Indian motifs and inventive arrangements but will probably not change anyone's mind about this well-debated period of Miles Davis's career. --Eugene Holley Jr.

Open Question: Do people want to be weird?
This is an honest question and I am not trying to be mean. I was just thinking about because there is this girl I know who has long stringy hair down to her waist, wears glasses, and has acne. All she really has to do is chop off her hair into a cuter cut and she could be a lot less weird! To go the extra mile, she could get some acne medicine. If she really wanted to be less weird, she could get some cooler frames for her glasses. I just don't understand. Does she want to be weird or something? Why? Is it really so hard to cut your hair?

Open Question: How long before I see results?
I'm 20 years old, 6'8'' and about 240-50 pounds. I'm in reasonable shape save for being overweight -- I can run at least a mile without stopping (though I don't run regularly) and I mountain bike on the weekends. I'm barely ever sick and I'm not usually tired apart from occasions I don't get enough sleep (I'm a working college student, it goes with the territory), so I'm guessing i'm eating the right foods, probably just a little too much of them (hence the extra weight).
However, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to fitness and losing weight by exercising. My question is regarding bicycle riding. I used to ride across my city to high school every day, a ride of about 6 miles. I recently re-rode the route, for old times sake, and found I could still do it without pushing myself too hard. The route consists of hills when leaving or approaching my house, but the city in general is on a downward grade when going away from home to my destination. If I were to start riding this route every day or every other day, which would be a total of about 12 miles (along with eating less), how long would it be before I began to see physical results?

Open Question: What is the funniest joke you have ever heard?
Tell me some funny jokes or funny things that have happened to you
Winner will get best answer =10 points
I'll start you off
A man had a terrible passion for baked beans, but they always had a somewhat lively effect on him. After he met the woman of his dreams, he made the supreme sacrifice and gave them up; he couldn't imagine subjecting his new wife to his beastly emissions. On his birthday, his car broke down, so he called his wife and told her he'd have to walk home. He walked past a cafe and the wonderful aroma of baked beans overwhelmed him. Since he was still a couple of miles from home, he figured he could indulge, and then walk off any ill effects. So he had three extra-large helpings of beans, and he "put-putted" all the way home. His wife met him at the door and seemed somewhat excited. She exclaimed, "Darling, I have the most wonderful surprise for you for dinner tonight!? She blindfolded him, and led him to his chair at the head of the table, making him promise not to peek. At this point, he was beginning to feel another one coming on. Just as she was about to remove the blindfold, the telephone rang and she went to answer it.
While she was gone, he seized the opportunity. He shifted his weight to one leg and let go. It was not only loud, but ripe as a rotten egg. He gasped and felt for his napkin and fanned the air about him. He had just started to feel better, when another urge came on. This one sounded like a diesel engine revving, and smelled worse. He tried flapping his arms, to clear the air. But another one snuck out, and the windows rattled, the dishes on the table shook, and a minute later, the flowers on the table were dead.
When he heard his wife ending her conversation, he neatly laid his napkin on his lap and folded his hands on top of it. He was the picture of innocence when she walked in.
Apologizing for taking so long, she asked if he had peeked at the dinner. He assured her he had not, so she removed the blindfold and yelled, "Surprise!!!"
To his shock and horror, there were twelve dinner guests seated around the table for his surprise birthday party.

Open Question: contempt for child support?
let me explain the situation before i have you pass judgment. i just came out of a criminal trial with my daughter in september that i was full acquitted on all charges. because of the trial i was unable to work. now that its over i am having a real hard time finding "any" work here in michigan. i have applied and sent out over 80 resumes in two months time.i also have been making as much of a child support payment per month as i can right now. i have no savings or extra cash, my wife just works for minimum wage. i have cooperated with foc as much as i can. last year my wife's taxes were offset for child support i owed because we files jointly. she files an injured spouse claim and got a potion of her money back. we needed this to live on because she was off on maternity leave for 5 weeks with no pay. she is not responsible for my support either. tomorrow i have to report to foc and bring with me a $300 payment i have gotten together from family and bring copies of all of the payments i have made and all of the resumes i have sent out. foc requires i apply for 20 jobs per month and i have been doing over double that. i just don't know what they want from me, i have cooperated and i am trying as hard as i can to get my life back in order since the trial. i am not a deadbeat dad as i am trying to do what i possibly can right now to please everyone. they say im not going to jail tomorrow but i still worry about it, if they were to lock me up it would only prolong me getting a job. the county i have to report to tomorrow is 175 miles from where i currently live. i have been told if i don't show up i will have a bench warrant too. what can i expect to happen tomorrow since i am bringing everything i can with me tomorrow to show i am trying my best. also my ex works a full time job and has 2 roommates that pay her bills for her. she got over $3300 from my taxes last year and blew it on a new car she didn't need and other things, she spent non of it on my children.
we are not seeing a judge tomorrow just a referee for foc. id hire my attorney again but im broke. the trial cost me and my family over $40,000.
i was accused of abuse that was later during the trial to be found as parental alienation by my ex-wife and i was found not guilty by all 12 jurors. please don't turn this into i may still be guilty. my ex and daughter have put me and my family through hell and we are all on the brink of bankruptcy.
richard:
after the trial i had the same judge and he did lower my child support. they really couldn't base it on any income since i was unemployed but it was lowered quiet a bit. the reason my arreage went up is because my wife filed that injured spouse claim and got money back from foc. the thing is the check was in my wifes name and not mine, it was her $$ that should not of been taken. i cant even file taxes this year because i had no income of any kind. i honestly think one of the reasons im having such a hard time finding work is because i live in a horrible state and i think those charges are still on my background. id love to hire my attorney again but i can't. im just saying i have cooperated and done everything i can to find work and pay some sort of support, im not a deadbeat by any means. the thing that sucks is, i have to pay support for my daughter when i haven't been able to see her in over 2 years because of the trial. they say it's more for my safety than hers !
jesus i just read the local news and now as of today michigan hit a 9.6% unemployment rate. no wonder i can't find a job.

Resolved Question: should i keep my job or quit it? 7 months pregnant and don't have my own car, please read!?
im 7 mo pregnant, and i work as a nanny. im not 18 yet, i will be next month. i have been a nanny for about 4 mo.
my stomach muscles have separated and it hurts to lift things over 15-20 lbs
i baby sit 3 kids,
a 4 year old a 6 year old and a 5 month old. i only get paid 400$ a month.. that's 2 $ an hour, 50 hours a week, mon-fri 200 hrs a mo.
the let me drive their extra car but i don't get to keep it if i quit.
the thing is that my boyfriend and i live about 25 miles away from where we both work, he works down the street from where i work and we drive together every morning. he doesn't have his own car either. the only reason i have stayed working here so long is for the car. i know they are taking advantage of me but i would feel guilty for quitting because my boyfriend would have to quit his job too. we live at my parents house and he could find a job down there but not one as good as the one he has now.
do you think i should quit my job and make my boyfriend find a new one by where we live? i want to try and find like a barista job, or a job at babys-r-us near my parents house.
ALSO: my parents bought me a car last year but took it back because my step dad needed it, and then my mom promised me 1000$ for a car and then backedout because she needed the money for bills, so thats why i havent saved for a car or got a better paying job so far, because i was counting on what they promised me.
please help any good advice helps!

Open Question: Gas Level Isn't Correct?
On a Chrysler LHS 1995 model lately the gas tank level seems wrong. It shows more gas is being used than normal and there hasn't been any extra trips. It shows on the temperture/mile information on the ceiling of the car losing about 7 miles to the gallon. If it is the gas gage sensor, is the place expensive to replace? Is the labor expensive??
If it isn't the gas gauge sensor, what can it be?
