Coming to Terms With Chinese Buddhism (Studies in East Asian Buddhism)
Coming to Terms With Chinese Buddhism (Studies in East Asian Buddhism) Chinese Buddhism is often portrayed as the product of a protracted encounter between Indian Buddhism and Chinese civilization, an encounter that led to the "sinification" of Buddhist teachings and practices. In a masterful display of scholarship, Robert Sharf makes a major contribution to the re-evaluation of the encounter. He shows that, although the Chinese were cognizant of the foreign origins of Buddhism, their actual exposure to South Asian clerics and Sanskrit texts was limited throughout medieval times. For the most part, Sharf argues, the Chinese dialogue with Buddhism took place among the Chinese themselves. That being the case, Chinese Buddhism is more properly approached as a product of sinitic culture, not a distorted reflection of normative Indian Buddhist prototypes. Sharf draws his argument in part from a close analysis of an obscure, nominally Buddhist text, the Treasure Store Treatise (Pao-tsang lun). The book begins with a careful reconstruction of historical and religious provenance of the text. It next turns to an analysis of internal evidence to demonstrate the close affinity between the Treatise and texts associated with Ox-head Ch'an and Twofold-Mystery Taoism. There follows a fascinating discussion of the metaphysical underpinnings of the Treatise in Chinese "correlative cosmology", in which Sharf points out the degree to which the metaphysical notion of "sympathetic resonance" (kan-ying) structured the medieval Chinese understanding of virtually all aspects of Buddhist doctrine, ritual, and soteriology. The introductory section is followed by a translation of the three chapters of the Treatise, including lengthy annotation that provides extended philologicaland philosophical discussion of dozens of key terms and concepts. The study concludes with a critical analysis of the place of Tantric, or Esoteric, Buddhism within the Chinese Buddhist tradition.

A Lexicon of Al-Farra's Terminology in His Qur'an Commentary: With Full Definitions, English Summaries and Extensive Citations (Handbook of Oriental Studies/Handbuch Der Orientalistik)
Al-Farrac's philological commentary, Mabani l-Qurcan, dating from the beginning of the 9th century, is a rich source for Qurcan readings, Qurcan codices, Qurcan commentary, Arabic lexicography and grammar. This commentary is unique, being the only extant extensive work by a grammarian of the Kufan school. The Lexicon contains about 3,000 terms and compound terms of grammar, lexicography, commentary, hadith and other Islamic sciences. Each term is presented with an English definition, often followed by an English summary. After the English section, extensive quotations from the original text are adduced in Arabic. Thus, the reader is given easy access to the contexts in which the term occurs.

Open Question: PV Narasimha Rao , India's Best Prime Minister Ever ..?
PV Narasimha Rao : Architect of Pokhran II Architect of Economic Reforms Archiect of India's new Foreign Policy : Rao also made diplomatic overtures to Western Europe, the United States, and China. He decided in 1992 to bring into the open India's relations with Israel, which had been kept covertly active permitted Israel to open an embassy in New Delhi.Rao launched the Look East foreign policy, which brought India closer to ASEAN Best PM in terms of National security, foreign policy and crisis management Please Visit Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._V._Narasimha_Rao PV Narasimha Rao , India's Best Prime Minister Ever , was also the Architect of Pokhran II , which was finally executed under BJP regime .. Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._V._Narasimha_Rao National security, foreign policy and crisis management Rao energized the national nuclear security and ballistic missiles program, which ultimately resulted in the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests. It is speculated that the tests were actually planned in 1995, during Rao's term in office,[25] and that they were dropped under American pressure when the US intelligence got the whiff of it. [26] Another view was that he purposefully leaked the information to gain time to develop and test thermonuclear device which was not yet ready. [27] He increased military spending, and set the Indian Army on course to fight the emerging threat of terrorism and insurgencies, as well as Pakistan and China's nuclear potentials. It was during his term that terrorism in the Indian state of Punjab was finally defeated. PV Narasimha Rao was no WEAKLING like Atal Biharee Vajpayee ( & LK Advani ) ,Unlike the Shameful Kandahar Episode , there was Also scenarios of plane hijackings, which occurred during Rao's time ended without the government conceding the terrorists' demands. He also directed negotiations to secure the release of Doraiswamy, an Indian Oil executive, from Kashmiri terrorists who kidnapped him,[30] and Liviu Radu, a Romanian diplomat posted in New Delhi in October 1991, who was kidnapped by Sikh terrorists. Rao also handled the Indian response to the occupation of the Hazratbal holy shrine in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan-sponsored[citation needed] terrorists in October 1993.[32] He brought the occupation to an end without damage to the shrine. Similarly, he dealt with the kidnapping of some foreign tourists by a terrorist group called Al Faran in Kashmir in 1995 effectively. Although he could not secure the release of the hostages, his policies ensured that the terrorists demands were not conceded to, and that the action of the terrorists was condemned internationally, including by Pakistan. Open Question: Do you know the Zionist movement "Lehi" pro-Nazi and pro-fascist?
In 1940, Lehi proposed intervening in World War II on the side of Nazi Germany. It offered assistance in "evacuating"[vague] the Jews of Europe, in return for Germany's help in expelling Britain from Mandate Palestine. Late in 1940, Lehi representative Naftali Lubenchik was sent to Beirut where he met the German official Werner Otto von Hentig. Lubenchik told von Hentig that Lehi had not yet revealed its full power and that they were capable of organizing a whole range of anti-British operations. On the assumption that the destruction of Britain was the Germans' top objective, the organization offered cooperation in the following terms: From the NMO side: full cooperation in sabotage, espionage and intelligence and up to wide military operations in the Middle East and in eastern Europe anywhere where the Irgun had Jewish cells, active and trained and in some places with weapons. From the German side, the following declarations and actions were demanded: (1) Full recognition of an independent Jewish state in Palestine/Eretz Israel (2) That the ability to emigrate to Palestine be conceded to all Jews, with no restriction of numbers, who, in leaving their homes in Europe, by their own will or because of government injunctions. For this purpose there was expressed a need to cancel any transfer plans of Jews to distant countries like Madagascar. On January 11, 1941 a letter was sent from Vice Admiral Ralf von der Marwitz, the German Naval attaché in Ankara, depicting an offer to "actively take part in the war on Germany's side" in return for German support for "the establishment of the historic Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, bound by a treaty with the German Reich".[17][18] There are three possibilities as to how the offer reached the German Naval attaché in Ankara. One is that en route to Germany, von Hentig was delayed in Ankara and delivered his version of the offer orally to von der Marwitz and von der Marwitz wrote the letter using his words. The second is that Colombani (a general in French intelligence) invented the offer because of personal rivalry between himself and other Vichy officials: this rivalry is known from a paragraph in von der Marwitz' letter, "Colombani is of the opinion that his return to France is a consequence of co-operation of Conti with Minister Pierroton", or, third, that Colombani wanted the offer to fail: he had co-operated with the Mufti of Jerusalem in Lebanon in 1938-1939 and was also the one who took him in his car through Syria to the Iraqi border in 1939. In any case, von der Marwitz delivered the offer, classified as secret, to the German Ambassador in Turkey and on January 21, 1941 it was sent to Berlin. There was never any response. Von Hentig would later say that he believed it was important to help the Jews establish a country. [19] [20] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehi_(group) (more...)

Resolved Question: Why is the mainstream press not reporting that Israel is following international law, Hamas is not?
http://www.thebulletin.us/articles/2009/01/05/herb_denenberg/doc4961c29b5ed1a649711765.txt The easiest way for anyone in the media to get a scoop is to write anything that is fair and balanced and with respect for the truth on the conflict in the Middle East. That?s because the mainstream media, such as The New York Times, NBC, Philadelphia Inquirer, etc., take the usual anti-Israel line, and fail to report on anything that might put Israel in a good light. So this is my scoop for today. You may have encountered ?The Brave New World,? but now you better brace yourself for ?The Crazy New World.? Even George Orwell would be shocked by what is going on now, with what might be called triple Orwellian inversions. If someone was writing a memo to the nations on conducting foreign policy, it might look like what follows: If you want the support of the United Nations, most of the world, and the Western media, the formula is quite simple. All you have to do is as follows: 1. Start by having a founding document that has as its central purpose the perpetration of genocide. 2. Then attack your neighboring country by firing rockets at the civilian population, in violation of international law. 3. Hide your rockets and other terrorist equipment in homes and other location where there are many civilians, to maximize the death and injury count when lawful and necessary defensive measures are taken to neutralize your illegal activity, another violation of international law. When your own people are thus murdered by your own acts, you can use it for propaganda purposes. You can be sure the Western media will run as many pictures of the dead and injured (for which you are responsible) in a fashion designed to generate sympathy for your position, and that same Western media will be largely uninterested in the civilian casualties caused in the neighboring country by your terrorism. 4. Exaggerate and lie at every opportunity to inflate the number of civilian casualties in your own land (for which you are responsible by hiding military facilities in civilian locations). That?s for the benefit of the Western media, which will of course publish and eat up any exaggeration or fabrication you care to pass along. Even if you have a long history of exaggerating and lying on such matters as civilian casualties, the Western media will continue to take your claims at face value. 5. When your neighbor responds to your illegal, genocidal attacks, appeal to the U.N. and world opinion for a cease-fire so you can rearm and get ready to slaughter and murder civilians in new ways and with greater ferocity, as soon as you want to end the cease-fire. 6. Instead of building your own economy and helping your own people, put all your resources into terrorist attacks against your neighbor and divert the humanitarian aid that flows into your land to your own program for genocide, aggression and terror. 7. When your economy turns sour ? which it will do inevitably because your first priority is war and terror and not nation building, which is your last priority ? and when it is further damaged by the measures of self-defense taken by your neighbor, claim there is a ?humanitarian crisis? and a cease fire and more aid is urgently required. 8. Continue your endless attempts to slaughter and butcher civilians, including those of your neighbor and even those of your own people for propaganda purposes, and then claim any self-defense measures taken by your neighbor are ?disproportionate.? 9. Continue to violate every international law on the books, making a mockery not only of law but also of the most basic precepts of humanity and civilization, and then claim your neighbor, who is compelled to act in self-defense, is committing ?war crimes.? By now, I?m sure you know this memo was a precise description of Hamas and its genocidal campaign against Israel, and the reaction of the United Nations, of much of world opinion and of the nations of the world, and of the Western media. To say what is happening is outrageous is a gross understatement, and stronger terms must be resorted to, such as an outbreak of international insanity. The world and the media seem to be on the side of genocide and terrorism. The mainstream media, as is its custom, is going out of the way to team with the U.N. and many of the nations of the world, in condemning Israel, attempting to deny Israel its inherent right of self-defense, in calling for a cease fire, claiming a humanitarian crisis, and in doing everything else it can to deny Israel its right to exist. Among the many deficiencies of the reporting are the almost complete failure to discuss the international law that is applicable, how Hamas is in violation of countless international conventions and other provisions of international law and how Israel?s response to the terrorism of Hamas is totally justified and supported by international law. Here are some of the provisions of (more...)

Open Question: How does Shakespeare present the relationship to Romeo and Juliet in contrast to the other charactor?
this is what i have wrote so far but can you help me and tell if i got any mistakes or do i need to add more things Act 1 Scene 1 Shakespeare starts the story off by a fight of two families one with Montague and the other Capulet (he mainly does this to appeal all the members of the audience). After the fight we started to wonder, where is Romeo or Juliet, if they weren?t in the fight it means they are not into fighting or it might mean they have a different characteristics or even it might mean they are too weak to fight. Later on Benvolio speaks to Romeo and we found the only reason Romeo wasn?t in the fight because he was in love. Act 1 Scene 5 In act 1 scene 5 Shakespeare introduces, not just the Capulet family but also Juliet, we the audience must have wondered why do you need the person Rosaline in this story, well Shakespeare wanted this scene to be dramatic, contrasting Juliet to Rosaline as he will often do later on in this story. Also Shakespeare poetic stage direction was to make the great hall dark because it is night time and reinforcing the fact Juliet is different from the other people, he made Juliet dress in bright colours and wear jewellery which clearly stood out from the rest of people in the scene, this is how Romeo would have saw Juliet as. Act 2 Scene 1 Mercutio and Benvolio made dirty jokes about Romeo and Rosaline. They don?t know that Romeo likes Juliet now .Romeo and Mercutio are very different, Mercutio does not fall in love so for Romeo, he wouldn?t be a perfect friend, so why are they friends, this is the same with Juliet and her nurse, the nurse is more immature than Juliet, the main reason for this is Shakespeare again is being Dramatic. Act 2 Scene 2 Shakespeare starts off the story with Romeo very angry what Mercutio and Benvolio said about him and Rosaline before. As Juliet in the scene is holding a candle Shakespeare makes Romeo say ?it is the east, and Juliet is the sun? this shows what Romeo thinks about Juliet. This clever metaphor as Juliet the sun shows how Romeo has changed since he liked Rosaline; it was cold and stunted with Rosaline, with Juliet his life has changed. He makes Juliet the sun and Rosaline the moon, the moon is sick and pale as the sun gives light, warmth and growth as it would give to the earth. He is later speaking in sacred terms to Juliet, which meant he showed absolute respect for her as wouldn?t do for someone else. Now if you look at Romeo and Juliet?s love compared Capulet and lady Capulet, Romeo and Juliet?s love is joyful and they are having fun but Capulet and lady Capulet`s love is dull, the couples wasn?t the perfect match. This is very good contrast to show how much Romeo and Juliet like each other than Juliet?s parents. Act 3 scene 2 Juliet was waiting for night to come which meant Romeo would come but the nurse who came later on told her what happen to Romeo. She wasn?t happy at all, Shakespeare here is not trying to break their love but he is making their love relationship stronger. Act 3 scene 5 Romeo and Juliet have spent a night together. Dawn was breaking and Romeo has to leave but Juliet persuades Romeo to stay, at this moment the characteristics have changed around from the start, how Juliet is persuading Romeo to stay, it should be the other way around. Lady Capulet believes that Juliet is crying over the death of her cousin Tybalt, but in fact she is crying because of her separation from Romeo and later in Juliet declares that if the Friar does not help her to avoid the marriage, her parents have planned for her, she will kill herself, a foreshadowing of what the audience knows it will actually happen, Shakespeare wrote this because to make the scene have a dramatic irony. Act 5 scene 3 Romeo races to Verona with poison to see Juliet. There he saw the Paris, he didn?t want anyone in his way, so he kills the Paris, and the reason for this is Juliet was the most important person in the world for Romeo. Inside the tomb he sees Juliet dead and kills himself as nobody liked him or he didn?t care about anybody else except about Juliet, Shakespeare makes this very dramatic. After when Juliet woke up soon after Romeo?s death she saw Romeo dead and killed herself for the same reason as Romeo death. (more...)

Resolved Question: When your 'ex' tells you 'Leave me alone' does she mean it?
I broke up with my fiance last March after courting her for nearly a year, and her accepting a 2500 dollar engagement ring that I bought. I finally had enough, after 11 months, and moved from her residence one night, when smy ex fiance said to me,( two months after moving my teenage daughter (from my previous marriage) into her house with us (which she pushed for, hard)), "I'm not quite sure I want to be married to you". I was devastated by this comment. We had been dating for about 11 months at that time. I had met her family back east, she mine, and my ex had visited my daughter at her my daughters house (her mothers house) up in northern california. My ex had never been married before. I had twice. Our relationship was rough from the outset. She was prone to stirring the pot, telling eveyone they needed mental health counseling (to which she did need, and was addicted to) and tried to force me to her couselers, within the first week. I noticed, though, that she would turn the situations around on me in the couselors, I became the focus, not her issues our our issues, I would get mad, and the cycle would repeat. It was hell. I had threatened to leave, many times (I was living in her house). and prior to my daughters arrival, our counselor told us this was not advisable to have my daughter move it. ONce she di, It of course, got worse and my fiance kept pushing boundries, being disrespectful to me. When my fiance stated she did not want to be married to me, I was furious. I had had it with the situation and after she spit on me, I threw her on the bed and threatened her. I knew it was time to go. I moved out and I stated that when she was willing to follow through with her word, to call me. She said my anger was just too much for her. She never stated that she played a part in instigating my anger, at all. None of it, was ever her fault. I took responsibility for my anger, She never did for her actions., My daughter being there, just made things worse. It became very bitter court battle with my ex wife, my ex fiance, me and my family and myself, wrapped up in the guardianship and living arrangements of my 16 YO daughter.. Prior to court, when I first left and At the request of my ex wife, who wanted her daughter back I then went to get my daughter out of my ex fiances house, but unbelievably, my daughter wanted to stay (the ex had a lot of money for attorneys and was spoiling my child with trips to europe, etc). This of course created alot of drama for my family. My ex dragged my name through the mud in court, of course. My fiance claimed that it was I, not her, that was Bordeline Personality Disorder, etc etc, you know the deal. I am responsible for my actions, can have a bad temper if incited and do take accountability for my actions, but BPD? I have never diagnosed with this, and I have seen may mental health professionals. IT became a tit for tat and I sent a letter to her employers email addresses, which I regret and feel bad about, but she just kept pushing the 'i will control and dominate you into submission' angle once I left. It was like a light was switched off and she could no longer feel love, anymore. She couldn't see why I left. . Desopite all this, I still loved her, deeply and was willing to try to work it out with her, but at the time, she filed a three month restraining order against me so I could not retrieve my daughter. I had to leave for both of our mental health and safety. It was that bad. We need serious, serious couseling if we were going to make it work. She had some really serious issues to deal with. 8 months later, after the breakup, things have cooled Off, and I began to see things more clearly. At Christmas, I became sentimental after not talking to my daughter for 7 months, I called my daughter, and she was really happy to hear from me, said she needed her dad in her life. we are back on good terms again, and I apologized for leaving her, telling her I really had to for everyone's sake. I then wrote two apology letters to my ex, one for my anger and the other explaining how we both needed work, but how in so many ways, we were good for one another because we understood and indeed, really loved one another in a way most people only hope to find in a lifetime, before my daughter moved in and things got hectic and stressed(she was having problems with her own mother ). When the ex began the flippancy on marriage issue, I told her I had to set limits because I needed stability for both my daughter and our relationship, and did not want to 'shack up' with her, after she had promised marriage and for us to try to make a go of some semblance of a 'family'. . Denying me was hare, it was pure rejection, and it hurt deeply. I told her money was not an issue, that I would sign a prenuptial, etc etc, if that was the motive. I told her how much I missed her and loved her in two emails. one on Christmas eve, the ot (more...)
