Stay Positive
The Hold Steady's ascent and eventual breakthrough with 2006's Boys & Girls in America was never pre-ordained. If anything they did it without the tastemakers' consent. Their shtick is old-fashioned through and through, beginning with Thin Lizzy and ending with Bruce Springsteen, performed by men advanced enough to have experienced those touchstones first or second hand. And look at them--not exactly The Strokes, are they? But it was precisely their enthusiastic unoriginality, the fact that the clichés were piled on so thick and so fast, that they triumphed. And placed next to that unapologetically feel good record, that Stay Positive sounds so immediately brighter and more muscular is undoubtedly a great sign. Production is really cranked up--see the horns wedged into "Sequestered in Memphis", the REM mandolin texturing of "Both Crosses" and the surprising harpsichord flagrancy of "One for the Cutters". They're clearly determined to not be so easily pegged this time around, though admittedly they never exactly go that far off-piste. "Our songs are sing-along songs," announced Craig Finn semi-helpfully, and though the spirit is right, with such a conversational lyrical style that is rarely the case. It's more about the rock gestures and knowing when to punch the air. And there are instances aplenty, from the Pete Townsend-esque windmill power-chords in "Constructive Summer", to the overblown solo in "Lord I'm Discouraged" that is so "November Rain" it's practically going through Stephanie Seymour's trash (those not watching MTV in the mid-90s, hit Youtube). --James Berry

Open Question: Should I stay with my fiance or not?
I hate these big drama questions but I need some input from people not related to the situation, any advice is welcome, the more brutal the better.
Ok I've been with my fiance for 5 years, we live together and come from the same hometown so have so much in common, etc. My family broke up and scattered around and basically his family are mine too now, they look out for me better than my own parents ever have. That said just before Christmas 2007 I had an affair with one of my best friends Mark from years ago at uni, he came to visit and things kicked off from then.
It lasted until 6 months ago, we'd only see each other once ever 6 weeks or so when I would go visit for the weekend, I wouldn't lie fiance knew where I was but obviously trusted me, but we'd speak every day via txt or phone or im, etc. All the time I was trying to kid myself it was just some stupid thing I'd call off soon, but I started listening to Mark when he would talk about him moving and me moving with him, etc. He had fallen pretty badly for me and I didn't know how I felt (It's all pretty standard soap opera stuff) It stopped because fiance found out, I'd left my phone and he checked it to get in touch with me and saw some messages, etc. I went back and we talked and I was ready to move out, I felt so bad for putting him through this and I deserved everything I got but he didn't want me to go. In fact he kind of understood some of the reasons it happened and has made so much effort since and we've been happy since then.
But at the time I had to choose, and I chose to stay with fiance. I told Mark and he was upset but took it well(ish) and we didn't speak for a few weeks, couple of months except to post some stuff to each other. Every so often I would txt to see how he was, I felt so guilty for hurting him so much but mostly I couldn't get him out of my mind, I never stop thinking about him and just stopped caring about everything else, on my day off instead of seeing my friends which I always used to do I sit at home and cry, read old message history and maybe search him on facebook so I could see a picture of him, really pathetic stuff y'know?
So time goes by and I'm bobbing along, driving myself crazy but me and fiance are good. Then early Dec I lost my job, mainly because I let some ass kisser new girl sweep it up from under me, but I really couldn't care less. Oh yeah and my birthday a couple days before that too all of which kind of bummed me out slightly, as I kind of secretly in my head pictured me and Mark together around this time. No word from Mark tipped me over aswell but didn't get in touch at all. Then he caught me online just before Christmas and was his old happy, lovely self, which tbh bummed me out more as I really wasn't. I cut the convo short and say I can't talk to him, it's too hard and I made the wrong choice, etc and go. He txt me saying he felt the same way and knows how I feel and he'll always love me. To which I say nothing.
Christmas Eve night we exchange a couple of txts, thinking of what we were doing this time last year and how it was amazing, etc and wish each other happy christmas on christmas day. It's stupid but I always felt so much better when I could talk to him but much worse when he goes quiet again. He then txt me a few days after saying he wishes he could see me but I say what good would it do except lots of bad? I wanted more than anything for him to just show up though so I could talk to him properly. Cut to New Years Eve when I txt Mark and ask why he always stops talking to me after a couple of txts and he hits me with he's sorry but he spent most of Christmas at his girlfriends. I'd asked him to tell me if he met someone else instead of me finding out through mutual friends but he hadn't so I said I didn't know and I felt an idiot and how could he say all those things if he's with a new girl? I understand it makes me a complete hypocrite but Mark always knew I was with fiance, we were together when I was at uni he knew him well enough. Anyway I told him not to contact me anymore, and promptly deleted everything, phone numbers, email contacts, im contacts, blocked facebook contacts, everything I could think of. And it's killing me. I think about him all day (having no job is giving me a lot more free time = a lot more crazy dwelling and things) and it makes me think that I've been distracting myself with work, friends, etc all along and maybe if I'm feeling this badly then I'm just trying to kid myself that I want to be with fiance. I love him very much, (I realise some people may have some comments on that) we spend so much time together we have evrything in common but we're more like best friends, we never fight, never argue, before my massive mess up we'd only ever had maybe 2 arguments ever. Which you could say isn't normal maybe?
Is it just that I am bored and need a bit more drama? But I'm quite boring in myself, I like spending time on my own and doing geeky things.

Open Question: Should I go to UCSD or stay @ CALSTATE LA?
I went to UCSD for one quater, (major economics). I left due to financial problems. I did'nt get enough financial aid from FAFSA, and I couldn't pay rent or food. It was difficult getting a job. So I left.
I came back to LA, and I am working with a musical band, and I am going to CSULA, (major in marketing management)
Should I go back to San Diego and get the prestigious degree or stay here in LA and work with my band, and get my marketing degree?
**in addition, I have a credit card debt of $1,200**
I don't have other degrees, and inconsideration of an expected recession, what degree has much to offer?

Open Question: Is it wrong of me to think about me and my best friend having sex?
Well, i can't get the "mental video" out of my head. We have known eachother for our entire lives. A few years ago, over the summer, we decided to try going out. And it didn't work out, but we still remained friends. (Just in case you are wondering, im a guy and my friend is a girl.) And then the following summer, we tried going out again, and it didn't work, but we still stayed friends. That was when we were 11. Now we are both in high school, (i'm in 10th grade and she is in 9th) and i really like her again. Now, at random moments throughout my life, i see me and her having sex. Idk what to do. But a few days ago, i asked her out and she said no. But i continue to have these thoughts. And if i had'nt mentioned it, I REALLY LIKE HER!!!
This is to the guy who asked about me going out with an 11 year old...
WE WERE BOTH 11!!!

Open Question: Should I go into town today?
I've been stuck in bed since Saturday with a bladder/kidney infection and I'm going out of my mind, can't stop running to the toiled and I'm still in a bit of pain but I have to get out the house before I go crazy.
Do you think I should go into town for a little while just to get out? or should I stay at home and continue to rest? I've took the whole week of work and have had countless message from colleagues asking when I'll be back, a little concerned I might not get my bonus this month because I won't have 100% attendance,
Do you think I'll still get it if I take in my doctors certificate?
Thanks.

Open Question: Boyfriend problems, making better?
Alright, I have posted before, but a recap is, me and my boyfriend were arguing because we started changing throughout college. Problem is there, that we changed, but I changed for what he wanted, so he promised to stop over once before we went to college, and I know he thinks i'm really sexy. What can I do the day he stops over to maybe "swoo " him back. This isn't a childish, i dont wanna lose my boyfriend fight, this is a , I know we're meant to be together, he is just kind of afraid to fight for it, because it may not work out in the end. I can't lose him. I need your help. Wether it involves going out, or staying in, it doesn't matter. I am with my parents right now because college starts monday. And thats when we can only possibly see each other on the weekends if he is willing to find a ride. So please, this is kind of my last chance at this...PLEAASSEE
We both love each other to death, and I know he still does. And I am deeply in love with him. This argument came out of no where. So, I need to know how to fix or help out something that I didn't create...PLEASE
Question is, when he stops over, what can i do to hopefullly make him see what he's been missing this past week?

Open Question: When can my puppy start going out?
14 weeks old puppy, lhasa apso. She has her vaccinations up to date, has been wormed and de-fleed.
I have been taking her to friends houses, etc, wrapped up in a blanket and carrying her in my arms.
Can I take her out walking by herself to the park?
What's the reason puppies have to stay in?
Is it wise to take them out in the cold? I live in London and is very cold at the moment.
Thank you for your answers.
