Black Star
Even in hip-hop--a genre famous for auspicious debuts--Black Star, the first album from the team of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, stands out. It's not just because these guys know their history (an update of Slick Rick's classic "Children's Story," a fine jack of BDP's "The P Is Free" on "Definition," and shout-outs to 2Pac, Biggie, and the Rock Steady Crew) and have paid their dues. Mos Def had been bouncing around the Native Tongues family for years, and both he and Kweli are featured on the Soundbombing and Lyricist Lounge albums. No, Black Star stands out simply because it's a great album, an intelligent, progressive, and funky piece of work that showcases two great MCs, both of whom have internalized the best parts of Guru, Rakim, and Q-Tip. The album also features strong production from Shawn J. Period and DJ Hi-Tek (Kweli's partner in Reflection Eternal). --Randy Silver

The Jar - A Tale From The East
Appearances to the contrary, The Jar does not seal itself off from non-Muslim children; there's nothing overly spiritual, after all, in teaching the merits of honesty and hard work. Take away the chadors, replace the village's earth-brown buildings with rows of grassy green lawns abutting white colonials, and sub out Eastern names like Ahnad for Andy, in fact, and you'd be left with a thoroughly mainstream American kids' cartoon. What's inside the title jar is treasure--enough sparkly, shimmering jewels to make a family of meager means, like Ahmin's, rich. His wife and two sons, one a supercharged preschooler and the other a responsible, right-minded teen, tally up the bounty, dollar signs in their eyes, when older son Hasan discovers the jar in a wall while fixing up the family's new home. Trouble is, Ahmin's conscience comes a-calling. The way he sees it, Al, the man who sold his family the property, is the jar's rightful owner. And the way his greedy neighbor Ahnad sees it, anyone dumb enough to return a jar of jewels is a prime candidate for five-fingering. Musical numbers punctuate the jar's bumpy journey to Al's house; Ahmin croons of doing his best to serve his neighbor and please his God, and Ahnad moonwalks his way through a number about how he's "a real cool dude," despite others' observations that he's "mean" and "rude." In the end, the good guys get to greet Mecca with clear minds; Ahnad's not so lucky. While The Jar's message is bell-clear and uncontroversial, teetering toward the weird for non-Muslim 2- to 8-year-olds may be the meek roles assigned to women in this hour-long show, which is nonetheless culturally valuable. --Tammy La Gorce

A wobbly mix of violence and sentiment, War, Inc. takes up where Grosse Pointe Blank left off. A conscience-stricken killer in the previous film, producer/co-writer Cusack now plays an international assassin. In Joshua Seftel's political satire, corporations operate like governments. In the volatile nation of Turaqistan, Cusack's hot sauce-addicted Brand Hauser sets his sights on Omar Sharif--the oil baron, not the actor (it's never clear why this is meant to be funny). As a cover, Hauser passes as the producer for an economic trade show with fellow operative Marsha (Joan Cusack) acting as his assistant. Trained by Southern smoothie Walken (Ben Kingsley) in his CIA days (depicted though flashbacks), Hauser now takes orders from an oily CEO (Grosse Pointe co-star Dan Aykroyd). Offing Sharif, however, turns out to be harder than expected. Hauser's obstacles include left-wing journalist Natalie Hegalhuzen (Marisa Tomei) and foul-mouthed pop tart Yonica Babyyeah (Hilary Duff, erasing innocent images of Lizzy McGuire). Cusack and his crew come up with a few clever ideas, but too many crass gags blunt their thesis about military contractors run amok. Pitched somewhere between Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove and Mike Judge's Idiocracy, War, Inc. registers as more of a miss than a hit. On the plus side, Cusack and Tomei have a snappy rapport; it's the more over-the-top performers who look out of place, especially Ms. Cusack and Kingsley, though the latter's deft turn as a boozy hit man in the overlooked You Kill Me almost makes up for this misfire. --Kathleen C. how do you have players like Campbell and Neidermeyer start above Boyle and Lidstrom. both of these players are better (and having better years) then the "starters" or how about Toews beating out Datsyuk. or 3 or the 5 starters in the east are from Montreal. come on. any one else agree?

According to the Gospel of Luke, Baby Jesus was apparently two years old? Would this be correct?
Also Luke's account says He was born in a manger- What would this little manger have looked like? Just the actual place where he would have lay-ed Himself?

The selections, particularly in the East, have generally generated a lot of discontent among hockey fans and experts alike. The same, although to a lesser degree, can be said about the choices in the West. The predominant beef seems to be with the unfair voting that has led to undeserving players snagging starter positions.
In your opinion, which players deserve to have the starter positions for the East and West? You may elaborate and add the reserves if you like.

Open Question: "In the bible, When the three kings/wise men (the 3 brightest stars on Orions belt) followed Sirius,...?
...the brightest star in the east, to find the son (sun) of god, did they know they were just astrological symbolism? Did you Christians know that?"
I actually stole this question from somewhere else. I added the wise men part for clarification, since the stars on Orion's belt were also referred to as the three wise men.
I figured it would be an interesting question to ask.

Open Question: Why are there so many Habs and Pens players on the All-Star team?
I mean there good but Komisarek as a starting D-Man come on theres plenty of better D in the East let alone him, and Crosby being the poster child of the NHL of course has to be on and Kovalev is just a complete fluke on even being on the team let alone the starting roster. Malkin, Markov, and Price are the only ones deserving of being on the starting lineup.
