Live: The Concert Event
Who can fault an artist who so clearly embraces a one-planet, one-people worldview? Someone who recruits guest instrumentalists from every hemisphere to underscore his fondness for multiculturalism and convey his wish for global harmony? You can't help but admire Yanni, the Greek keyboardist/composer, even while acknowledging such nobility does not always translate into deeply satisfying music. On this, the audio-only component of his third made-for-television concert production (filmed in 2005 in Las Vegas), Yanni continues in his adopted role of True Egalitarian, playing a few bars to open a piece, then fading into the background to let other musicians (on violin, trumpet, sax, didgeridoo, hammer dulcimer, even keyboards) command the music's flow. A lovely gesture, but one that often results in extended soloing that sidetracks, even derails, the focus of the music. (Consider "Playtime," where Ming Freeman plays the jazzy piano solo, and the disc's previously unreleased track, "The Storm," pairing violinists Samvel Yervinyan and Sayaka Katsuki in a showy duet that is reminiscent of something from Bond.) Thus while the musicianship is first-rate, the production is superb, and some tracks are terrific (too bad "Standing in Motion" fades out so quickly), this disc is more about the jamming and less about staying on compositional task. Likely this project will be better appreciated in its DVD version, where the staging and artist interaction is on display. Meanwhile, some longtime fans may be left yearning for a day when Yanni will step up to his keyboards, drop the hammer, and let his own muse rock. --Terry Wood

1968: The Year That Shaped a Generation
Legendary television news correspondent and anchorman Walter Cronkite hosts this retrospective of one the most tumultuous years in American history -- 1968. Change was in the air and optimism ran high in the Civil Rights Movement and the 1968 Presidential campaign. The hopes of many were dashed by the shocking assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King and Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. Riots broke out in the streets, as people expressed their anger at these tragic deaths, as well as continued American involvement in Vietnam. The video presents archival film footage of these and other events, along with interviews of important figures of the day.

Surely you jest.
Surely this was interoperable with Collins.
Surely this system was still being used by projects associated with Collins.
Did this happen all the time on Collins project - someone pulls the rug from under other teams.
This nonsense couldn't happen without the blessing, or instigation, of someone fairly senior.

Open Question: Do all things in Kingdom Animale feel pain?
Heh, I feel kinda stupid asking this question, but do the Insects, crustacea, and molluscs feel pain?
I'm not talking about animal cruelty, I mean you don't really hear on the news how people torture squids to death, but natural caused pain and do they suffer from it? I mean does the pain feel like tingly, like uh, your foot asleep, that feeling?
I'm very curious to know and how do we know, if we know at all? I know, that I can feel pain. I know this from the direct experience of pain that have when, for instance, I stub my toe. But how do we know that these creatures feel pain? We cannot directly experience their pain.
Isn't pain also a state of consciousness, a "mental event". Behavior like screaming, or drawing one's hand away from the lighted cigarette is not pain itself; right?
If I pierced an earthworm with a fishhook and the worm will twist and writhed is that pain, or do is just know something not right, like feel the hook? I know it sounds kind of wierd but like, it does hurt but it can feel it.
Basical, what I'm asking is do they feel pain, if they don't why? What really is pain?, I think its a mental event, but am I wrong? Finally, if they do feel pain, do they suffer from it like a human would, or feel it in a weird way?
Ugh, sorry for the long Q...
Didn't really know where to put, this seemed like the best place >_<

Open Question: if you have ever read the book savannah i have a summary and i need it to be switched up, can anyone help?
The story savannah takes place in the 1864. The environment is cold and it is Thanksgiving. There are two main characters throughout the story. They are Hattie and Sara. Hattie?s real name is Harriet Lester but everyone calls her Hattie. She is twelve years old, and the daughter of Sara. Sara would be the mother of Harriet. The story is about the struggle for Harriet and Sara to keep Landson?s plantation going after he dies. Landson is Sara?s husband. As they struggle doing this they find out that Sherman could be attacking there town. Meaning they are forced to move to Savannah with Mrs. Vee.
The story starts during Thanksgiving. Harriet talks about not having much to be thankful for. Sara talks about her love Landson Lester. She taught his slaves to read even though it is illegal. He died on his horse on the field. After he died they lived in the house that his dad and slaves built. Throughout the story Sara is struggling and trying to keep his plantation going. Each time she fails. Finally she hired an overseer. He ended up lasting eight months until she discovered he was a thief. Sara tried to do it again and nearly died from miasmic fever. Surprisingly, one day Sara and Hattie got a visit from her friend Mrs. Vee. She was there to tell them bad news. Mrs. Vee told them all about Sherman?s attack to Milledgeville. His left wing vandalized Milledgeville. They burned prisons, churches, and even conference notes. She warned them that he is coming there way, also that there are prisoners running around and it?s not safe. Mrs. Vee invited Hattie and Sara to come live in Savannah with her were it is safe. Sara turned her down because she wanted to keep Landson?s plantation going. Soon after, when things got worse Sara decided they should move in with Mrs. Vee. One peaceful night, there was a knock at the door. Mrs. Vee went to answer and it was a Yankee. He wanted some water so she told him to go out back. When she went to close the door he pushed it open with his shoulder, barged in with two other soldiers and vandalized there whole house. Hattie gets mad and kicks one of the soldiers in the shin. The soldiers were trying to take Amelia, Hattie?s pig, and she wouldn?t let them. As they were vandalizing the house and spilling ink Mrs. Vee faints on the ground. Throughout the story more and more we see a change in Hattie. She becomes a strong girl, willing to put up a fight. In the story she is always sticking up for her self and others. At one point she meant to kick an officer and it ended up being Sherman. Everyone was in shock. One morning when Hattie woke up she discovered something usual. She had become a woman. Hattie started her menstrual cycle. Then while Hattie and Legrand were walking around they found two colored slaves locked up. They were Zip and Adam. Hattie and Legrand went to Sherman and told him to free them. They said in return they would write a letter to Mr. Lincoln. As a result Sherman frees them. At the end when everything is settled, after Christmas, Hattie and Sara move back to Silverglass.
There are many simple clues to the setting in this book. In the beginning of the story on page one, the caption tells you the year, 1864, and the month, November. Throughout the whole book the author gives you the date or time in the captions or the first paragraphs after the caption. If you look on page 23 the caption tells you the year which is 1864 and the date November 27th. Also, page 136 shows you how the author will tell you the time and place of an event. I think the author could have made the setting clues a little harder or deeper in the book. All the clues to the setting are there for you, it makes it easier for the reader.
In Savannah, there was many things I liked that the author did to make me catch the book. One of them is how he jumped from the war to their life. When I first started to read the book I was confused but as I went on I grabbed on to the flashbacks that were taking place. This book was very realistic. Some parts seemed unrealistic because it didn?t sound like something that would go on today. My emotions in the book changed a lot. At parts I would be shocked. Other times I would be scared or didn?t no what was going to happen. At the end of the book I like how he puts in the part of Hattie starting her period. I think it just kind of gives you like a happy feeling and you feel happy for the character. Something I didn?t like about this book is that it isn?t split into chapters, it just had different captions. Chapters make it easier to go along with the book and easier to read. Together I think this book was very enjoyable.
