Erik Satie Compositeur de Musique On this disc Italian avant-garde accordionist Teodoro Anzellotti spins out the charming, lilting, and quite familiar solo piano melodies of Erik Satie (the entire "Sports et Divertissements" and "Gnossiennes," the always popular "Three Elegant Waltzes by a Squeamish Pansy," and others). While this music was composed in perhaps Satie's most humorous period, the accordion does not emphasize that quality or turn it into kitsch. Instead Anzellotti takes Satie's mostly linear melodies and teases them out into clouds of chords, like straight hair is teased into a burr, a rat's nest. Not that the music becomes an absolute blur, but instead the crisp and sharp are changed into something more warm and enveloping. Through his techniques, the transitions faintly overlap and tempos are ever-so-slightly halted, all with the effect of rendering the very familiar less so. Beautiful. --Robin Edgerton

Open Question: Geometry Golf Project Questions?
My class was given the assignment to each individually create a golf course (just one hole). Its worth 140 points. To get 15 points on one of the sections you had to make sure the course you made shape was made out of triangles, and quadrilaterals. But the catch was the shape should relate to a time period you were given. I was given the 1980's. Open Question: Question about fixing lawn in South Texas?
I live north of Houston, and there are some large, dead spots of lawn in the backyard. Not just dead grass, but open areas of dirt/sand. Considering that it's January and the grass isn't doing much of anything, is there anything that can be done at this point? Would putting grass seed down make sense, or should this wait until Spring, and if so, what would be the earliest time to plant? The backyard HAD mostly St. Augustine, but it looks like a majority of bermuda has now started to grow (shorter, more golf-course-appearing grass.) I'd prefer Augustine, but I'll take what I can get at this point. Any suggestions? Thanks (more...)

Open Question: Unemployment while attending school?
I was recently unemployed because of closure of the golf course. I currently attend school (nursing) but I have no control over my class schedule. Once in the nursing program, the person who runs that program picks your schedule. I only have 10 credit hours, but full time is 12. I was wondering will I still receive unemployment benefits after the initial 6 months of unenployment benefits are up? (more...)

Open Question: Any suggestions for flowers?
I am getting married in May, the ceremony is going to be on a golf course, the reception in the restaurant. I have no idea what kind of flowers I should go with nor the colors, for the bouquet or anything else...the bridesmaids dresses are like a fuchsia color and I'm not too fond of roses, at least not just roses. I really like any tropical flowers or any kind of lilies. I'm pretty sure I'm going stick with fuchsia and silver for the colors, and hints of green. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
