I live in Dallas, TX with a B.F.A. in photography, wanting a career change to become a librarian. I'm thinking of going through the LIS program at the University of North Texas because they are ALA-accredited, local, they do an online/on-site combination program, they will set me up with work-study experience, and I've heard they are fairly well though of for their program. Their advisor estimated $1,000 per class for 12 courses in two years. I'll be supporting myself completely while trying to take classes and work the PT work-study. Questions: Does anyone have an opinion of the UNT MLIS program? About online study? Can anyone describe how they made the financial side work out? Can anyone recommend websites for grants or scholarships? Can you name specific scholarships you'd received? Are there employers out there that do tuition assistance even if you're pursuing a graduate degree and just working part time? I'm mainly concerned about how to make time to study, do the work-study, and work another part time job to help with bills and food. I hate the idea of mounting debt for years, but it seems like the average salary I'm seeing makes it worth it?? (more...)

Ive had my dog for about 10 days now. He is 8 weeks old. I never got a chance to ask the previous owner what kind of food he was eating but as soon as I brought the little guy inside he went straight for the dog food that my older dog eats. He and the older dog have been eating Purina 1. And I asked a local breeder if it was bad for the puppy to be eating adult dog food so early. He said there is not to much difference in adult food vs puppy food so he recommended just giving the puppy a little at a time. So for about 6 days he was fine. His potty looked normal and his gums were healthy. But the past 4 days his Business had blood in it and was starting to get runny. I am wondering what could be causing this. I figured it could have been the change in food but why the blood? I have scheduled a vet appointment already but I wanted peoples opinions on this while I wait to go to the vets. And if it is the food change.. is it normal to have a delayed reaction towards it? That and could stress be an issue? I think he looks fine. He has been playing and running around and absolutely loves my older dog. Crate training him though, has been difficult since the diarrhea and of course I'm not going to let him roam around the house and poop ever wheres. What a mess that would be. I don't see any worms in his poop either. I know this is something for a professional to handle but I wanted to see what everyone else thought while I wait to take my puppy to the vets. Just for the record I am not relying on what the local dog breeder is saying. I just wanted to know what he thought.Purina 1 has made my older dog look fantastic. I tried putting her on this natural organic dog food but it was making her hair fall out in clumps, the poor thing looked like a rat. So the Purina Dog food has helped for her. But because every dog is different I am not sure what the best kind of dog food would be for my puppy. (more...)

I'd like your opinion on whether Solid Gold's Katz-n-Flocken or Felidae's Cat and Kitten Formula is the better choice of dry food for my two cats. I'm switching them over because my local store discontinued what I was feeding originally. I will do it gradually, I know the deal. :] I'm leaning more towards the Solid Gold right now, since the first ingredient is a pure protein (lamb) as opposed to the Felidae with chicken meal. Also, it's got a minimum of 34% protein as compared to Felidae's 32%. If you'd like to through in other suggestions, you're welcome to, but I'd like to also know your take on the Solid Gold vs. Felidae. Thanks in advance!
