2008 Global Conference: Harnessing Growth to Break Poverty's Grip on the Developing World

Recent decades have brought historic gains to developing nations. In many cases, populations mired in desperate poverty and stagnation as recently as the 1950s and 1960s have now caught up with industrialized countries -- or are well on their way. Today China, Indonesia, Thailand and Botswana are on a path of "high inclusive growth," while India and Vietnam are close behind. These success stories aren't just isolated miracles. This panel at the 2008 Milken Institute Global Conference brought together a panel of experts (including two Nobel Prize-winning economists) to discuss how the world community can replicate these achievements to reduce extreme poverty in the developing world.

2008 Global Conference: Seizing the Opportunity to Eliminate Malaria as a Global Health Threat

Each year, malaria claims the lives of more than 1 million people around the world. It takes a particularly devastating toll on the children of sub-Saharan Africa, and costs the continent an estimated $12 billion in health expenditures and production losses. But today the world community has a historic opportunity to eliminate malaria as a public health crisis. The 2008 Milken Institute Global Conference brought together a panel of experts to discuss the latest developments from the front lines of this battle, focusing on how an effective public-private partnership can provide all the resources we need to end the needless deaths caused by malaria by 2015.

2008 Global Conference: Revolutionizing Health Care and Research in the Developing World

If providing health care to the poor is challenging in the industrialized world, it's even more daunting in developing countries. Disease spreads quickly, patients lack access to basic medication and care, and low profit margins limit activity by providers. But new business models are revolutionizing the delivery of health care. Microfinance has proven that the poor can and will pay for services, and it is increasingly recognized that the so-called "bottom of the pyramid" constitutes a market. This panel from the 2008 Milken Institute Global Conference, featuring Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, explores how we can deliver medical care to some of the world's most excluded populations.

Jobo Plastic Film Developing Tank with Cog Gear for One Roll of 35mm Film

The 2500 series tanks are used for roll film and 4x5" sheet film. They are not designed for traditional inversion (hand) processing because they would use too much chemistry if they weren't used horizontally. The 2500 series tanks are designed to be used with JOBO rotary processors (or at the very least on a JOBO Roller Base). There are both manual (semi-automatic) versions available for home use, or fully automatic versions available for business use.Develop your color or black and white roll film and sheet film with one system. The formats supported are 35mm, 120, 127, 220, and 4x5".One of the key features of JOBO processing systems are the characteristics of the developing tanks. The tanks are composed of tank bodies, lids, center cores, and reels. Unlike other tanks, JOBO tank bodies are made from pliable, ABS plastic which prevents them from cracking if dropped. The tank lids are attached to the tank bodies with a locking ring. This design is better than the screw-on type because there are no threads to gunk up or get cross-threaded.

Open Question: Is there any way this think might work?
Me- The following is an ad I found on a website:
ad- I found this in a news group and decided to try it. A little while
back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now and
came across a message just like this that said you could make
thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of
$6.00!!!
So I thought yeah right, this must be a scam!!! But like most of us, I
was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to
each of the 6 names and addresses stated in the message. You then
place your own name and address at the bottom of the list at #6 and
post the message in at least 200 news groups. (There are thousands to choose from). No catch, that was it.
So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first. I
thought about trying it. I figured, what have I got to lose except 6
stamps and $6.00, right? So I invested the measly $6.00!!! Guess what?
Within 7 days I started getting money in the mail!!! I was shocked!!!
I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in!!! In
my first week, I had made about $25.00. By the end of the second week,
I had made a total of over $1,000.00!!! In the third week, I had over
$10,000.00 and it is still growing!!! This is now my fourth week and I
have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it is still coming in
rapidly!!! It's certainly worth $6.00 and 6 stamps!!! I have spent
more than that on the lottery!!!
Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works!!!
Also, make sure you print a copy of this message now. So you can get
the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you
follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money
than you thought possible by doing something so easy!!!
Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully!!! (Print it out or
download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come
in!!! It's easy!!! It's legal!!! Your investment is only $6.00 (plus
postage).
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off!!! It is not illegal!!! ? It is
almost entirely risk free and it really works!!! If all of the
following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary
dividends!!!
Please note: Follow these directions EXACTLY, and $60,000.00 or more
can be yours in 20 to 90 days!!! This program remains successful
because of the honesty and the integrity of the participants!!! Please
continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions.
You will now become part of the mail order business. In this business
your product is not solid or tangible, it is a service. You are in the
business of developing mailing lists. Many large corporations are
happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from
a mailing list is secondary to the income which is made from people
like you and me asking to be included on your mailing list!!!
Here are the 4 easy steps to success:-
Step 1:- Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on
each piece of paper.
PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST
Now get 6 U.S. dollar bills and place ONE inside each of the 6 pieces
of paper so the bills will not be seen through the envelopes (to
prevent mail theft). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes
and seal them, you should now have 6 sealed envelopes. Each with a
piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a
$1.00 bill.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!!! YOU ARE REQUESTING A LEGITIMATE SERVICE
AND YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT!!!
Like most of us, I was a little skeptical and a little worried about
the legal aspect of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Postal
Service and they confirmed that it is indeed legal!!!
Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:-
S. A. Blair
14601 Portland Ave #219
Burnsville, MN 55306
D. Kumar
Room 2.36 Burkhardt House
Oxford Place, Victoria Park
M14 5RR Manchester
ENGLAND
T. Perce
11505 Headley Avenue
Cleveland, Oh 44111
M. Sigler
1572 39street

J. Eddolls
144 Pursey Drive
Bradley Stoke
Bristol
BS32 8DP
United Kingdom
Louis Joseph
1933 Highway 35, #104
Wall, NJ 07719
Step 2:- Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move
the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc.) and add your name
as number 6 on the list.
Step 3:- Change anything you need to, but try to keep this message as
close to what you see as possible. Now, post your amended message to
at least 200 news groups. I think there are close to 24,000 groups!!!
All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money
you make!!! This is perfectly legal!! If you have any doubts, refer to
Title18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of
these steps for yourself and whenever you need money, you can use it
again.
Please remember that this program remains successful because of the
honesty and the integrity of the partici

Open Question: Business start up help needed ?
I am a college Prof, with a PhD and I am an expert in a couple of areas that I want to present as a seminar. I have actually done so on a very small scale.
The two areas are Deception Management and Evolutionary Neuro Sociology. Briefly these are
1.Identifying lies and eliciting honesty which I believe would be valuable in situations such as hospital intake, job interviews and so on. I have written two books on this and teach it at the college level.
2.Studying Juvenile Del I have developed a model for understanding adolescent behavior and some methods for managing it. This involves things like causes of neurotransmitter production or reduction, behavioral effects of hormones and so on.
I am seeking help in how to implement these seminars to be very profitable. The contents I believe are valuable (and others say so as well). I have much experience teaching and doing presentations to groups from 4 to 2000.
Any comments on how to begin, which should take precedence, suggestions on contacts or organizations etc would be really helpful.
